Frozen looks so good because everything else is so bad!
I saw it for the first time on DVD the other day... it was OK but I don't have any desire to see it again. Our girls love it, but they also wore out a couple of "Barbie Princess" and "Kitten Party"movies so I'm not sure if that really counts.
Early Disney films are still considered classics, and rightly so. Snow White. Pinocchio. Cinderella. Dumbo.
Then Disney went into the '60s and '70s and started putting out stuff like The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Rescuers. All good but not great movies. Decidedly mediocre. The notable exception being The Jungle Book, which is great.
Then the late '80s revived with The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, etc.
Disney is back in a mediocre rut. Not counting Pixar, what was the last truly great Disney film? Mulan? And that was 16 years ago.
Frozen wasn't a bad movie. It was just mediocre. Little girls seem to love it. Parents seemed bored.
I'd say The Sword in the Stone is an exception as well. Awesome movie!

Recently, you had Saving Mr. Banks as well. GREAT movie (though not as family friendly.) During the summer you had Despicable Me 2, Monsters University and Planes which were also big kids movies. Of the three, Monsters U was the only one I've seen. Despicable Me 2, I would like to see. Planes, I could have done without even as an idea. It just seems like a cheap spin-off of Cars.
I saw it on a plane recently and thought it was overhyped as well. Too much singing. I thought 'Brave' was much better in everyway.
Brave I haven't seen but it isn't a musical like the other princess movies have been. Come to think of it, Pixar really only uses soundtracks like Randy Newman, country (when talking about Cars) and old show tunes with Wall-E. It's apples and oranges with the only tie being they are princess stories.
Honestly until he suddenly became evil, I was rooting for Hans! He seemed like a great guy until the very end. I didn't find his betrayal convincing at all. And I agree about all the rest. I felt like the movie was trying way too hard to win the heart of feminism and atone for the past "sins" of Disney.
But it was a shocking turn that made sense and no one could see coming. I saw Meet the Robinsons and thought that Bowler Hat Guy was a grown up Goob right after the scene when BHG told Goob to let his hate fester in him so the reveal wasn't exactly shocking to me. Good movie though.
enjoyed it, thought it was good, however, it was ok, liked Finding Nemo a lot better!
