Brigham City (2001)

This was a subtle and surprisingly good (serial)murder mystery. A small town Mormon sheriff is on the trail of a local killing spree. And it's ultimately about the struggle to maintain faith in a benevolent God. It has the production value of a TV movie, because I think it was a small studio that released it. On Prime right now. Very good ~

T'was a Double Feature Night!

First.....Black Water Gold
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064093/?ref_=fn_al_tt_0
Decent TV movie, sort of a light version of "The Deep" but what the heck, it predates that by 7 years. Done back in a time before submergable pressure gauges. Bradford Dillman is the crook and he's very slimy in this one. A 6.7.

Then.........Inspector Morse: Happy Families
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0611643/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_8
Morse is on a manhunt and the bodies are piling up! But unlike 007, he has to deal with the press, too, who want to get very personal with his life. It's decent, the tension is pretty good, but it seems the conclusion is a bit of "Oh, we need to solve this, we are almost out of time!". Still, for the false leads of such, it has its twists. A 6.7.

Deliver Us from Evil (2014) : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2377322/

An overall decent if somewhat derivative effort , that's well worth watching for those interested in exorcism themed horror flicks IMHO .

The Gorgon

An okay classical horror flick but nothing earth shattering. A 5.0.

The Painted Veil. I've seen it before. I love that movie. Naomi Watts and Edward Norton.

Watching “Red Dragon” on Tubi w/Edward Norton, Antony Hopkins, Ralph Fiennes, Harvey Keitel and Emily Watson—a precursor to “Silence of the Lambs” about the FBI agent who caught Hannibal Lector and now is using him to find another serial killer called “The Tooth Fairy”
This movie is remake of the Thomas Perry novel “Red Dragon” done initially in 86 by Michael Mann as “Manhunter” with William Petersen as Will Graham and Tom Noonan as the serial killer…
Noonan is less handsome than Fiennes which I think makes Fiennes come across as less threatening in some ways

“Red Dragon” had a great cast…and Hopkins’s performance is seminal to his “Silence of the Lambs” role.
Brian Cox in “Succession” now played Lecter in Manhunter—Joan Allen was Reba.
“Manhunter” has more of the creepy roller-coaster ride of the novel—because of Mann’s direction since many of the lines and scenes are almost the same…
Make an interesting back-to-back viewing experience I think
Don’t know if Manhunter is available for free—but it is a great scary movie…

Paris When It Sizzles
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058453/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

Anything that you want me to be.

The associations of this flick which were probably well known back then makes me want to learn about them. For example, standing with one leg jacked up a chair or something is something we associate with "Will Riker" now but apparently, it was a trait of young Tony Curtis then. Ought to read or watch the classics they refer to as well.

I saw the opening of this movie once when I was very very young and didn't know anything about anything, just recalled the name of the movie in the movie, "The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower" and the scene of trench coat spies in a chase...that had to be rewritten. Glad to finally catch up with it. A 7.6.
