I know! I think the Depp/Burton duo is unstoppable and this is going to be nothing less than amazing. Deep is just so perfect for this role of The Mad Hater!

I can't believe I'm all grown up and have no idea what the premise is of AIW. I know she falls in a hole and that's all I know. I think the concept freaked me out as a kid and I never wanted to read it. I took my daughter to see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and the preview for this movie looked great great great, but way too creepy for my kid. Alas, I'll have to wait for it to come on HBO or else I'll have to see it with my husband and get a babysitter... lol.

How old is your child? I think the story will be "kid-friendly" since it is still a Disney film. I would wait to see more clips once they are released before ruling it out entirely.

Disney ruins all the classic stories. Well, maybe not RUIN, but definitely over-sanitizes them. Whitewashes them if you will!

Most kids stories and songs dealt with many of the harsher realities with life. Things like "ring around the rosie" was, what, scarlet fever or something? Most of the fables ended with dead people (not just the villain) as a life history lesson (good kids bad kids).

Some were just horrible, but most did not try to hide the fact that people live, people die, and life in general goes on...

Than being said, I like the whole Scissorhands combo. They are both complimentary off their rockers. Tim having that push that works well with bizarre stories, and Johnny having a knack for fitting the roles that he provides for him.

I did not like Johnny as Wonka though. Gene is a really hard act to follow, and his character seemed to fit the role better than Dep.

The only other thing I am looking forward to is the possibility of Dep playing a character in the new batman franchise. I think he would be PERFECT as Scarecrow (who played him in the first flik? Was it Dep?).....

Anyway!

I am looking forward to this movie, I kinda like the darker look and think The previews look sweet. Also can't wait to see how much they do with Depp and the Chesire cat... )

Ninjahedge -- I definately don't think Disney ruins classic stories and although they surely put a different twist on them that is what I adore most about the company. It is nice to see your favorite story with a couple new surprises along the way. I think this movie will cater to both the children and adult audiences and that makes it a movie that everyone can enjoy!

MrNemesis -- I forgot about the The Cheshire Cat -- Stephen Fry is slated for that role/voice, so it will be great I am sure! He is the one who actually narrates the Harry Potter films.

TYH, I would disagree on some. If it wasn't for Robin Williams, I think Aladdin would have been a downer.

I just object to the over characterization. Anyone with facial hair is evil. Bad guys are either evil LOOKING, funny colored, stupid, or ugly. Typical kind of thing...

They pulled the teeth out of many of the old stories too. While I agree the classics are still classic, especially compared to some of the deco-style animations they have been putting out lately (Hercules comes to mind), I still miss some of the real world grit.

And lets not forget the Adult Easter Eggs they try to sneak into the movies!!!

I detest and deplore what Disney has done to Winnie-the-Pooh and many other tales.
Having said that, it seems as though different divisions of Disney have different design teams and parameters--Pixar rocks my world. I don't think Burton's finished product will have had the exact same constraints as some other Disney projects.

Disney is looking to make a profit.
I'd be surprised if they have Grace Slick singing on the soundtrack, but we shall see. Burton is not exactly an uptight fuddy duddy.

The author of Alice In Wonderland (Lewis Carroll aka the Reverand Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) is the first recognized child pornographer (he liked to "photograph" little children) and much of AIW was written during his experimental phases with various "chemicals".
Dodgson took deacon's orders, but never became a real priest, though he remained at Christ Church--as a mathmatician.
This book sheds a bit of light on Dodgson.
He took many of pictures of landscapes, men, women, and yes, children--and also more well known personages such as Alfred,Lord Tennyson. Photography was in its infancy (no pun intended) when Dodgson first discovered it. No doubt Alice Liddell was his favorite child model, but if there ever was evidence that he was inappropriate with his camera, the evidence is now gone--all we have is allegations.
Nor is there a shred of factual evidence that Dodgson ever used drugs.
LSD wasn't yet invented, though of course there were other drugs, such as opium, available in his day.
The origin of the story came about when he was out rowing a boat on a summer's afternoon. He was encouraged to write it out, and later it was published.

I agree, all valid points but I still have my hopes set out on this film. I know some classics remakes don't turn out as great as we would like, but I am pretty sure with this cast and crew, I will be enjoying this film from beginning to end!

I'm fine with any movie Johnny Depp is in, he can play any part.
