Saw "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" yesterday. It's a cute little movie, nothing extraordinary just a simple, cute movie about life, friendship, love and and all that..oh and some fishing!

Me too! Sweet, funny, moving. Just what I needed on a Friday afternoon.

Frozen River. It was good, better than I expected.

I also watched Pan's Labyrinth, which I think was excellent.

"Once upon a time in Anatolia" a superbly shot, beautifully acted Turkish film. Very long and very slow but a real treat for those people who like to see a story unfold at its own pae. Loved it.

Official 'Once Upon a Time in Anatolia' trailer. Release Date: January 4, 2012 - YouTube

Also saw "Mirror, Mirror" at the week-end, a ravishingly sumptuous treat visually, superb cinematography but sadly a bit of a disappointment with two of the lead characters ( Snow White and the Prince) bland and dull as could be. No spark of chemistry between them either. Poor choice in casting resulted in a whimper rather than a bang. Beautiful to look at though and Julia Roberts did a good job of the role as the Evil Queen. A tighter more sarcastic script would have enhanced it. A little too Hollywood for my tastes but not too bad.

Mirror Mirror Trailer Official 2012 [HD] - Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer - YouTube

And then the big disappointment of the week :

Aardman / Sony presents - THE PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS (Trailer) - YouTube

Absolutely beautiful to look at, very intricate sets ( you spend most of the time pondering how amazing the animation is), but rather lame script making it a huge disappointment. I was really looking forward to that one but it simply failed in my books. Not particularly funny, not moving or clever either. Give me "Up" or "Ratatouille" any day.

"An Unfinished Life" with Jennifer Lopez, Robert Redford, and Morgan Freeman. The girl that played Lopez's daughter did a great job too. It was the second time I had seen it and enjoyed it alot. Set on a ranch - good story line. good family movie too.

Also just saw "We Bought a Zoo". I like Matt Damen and this also had Scarlet Johansen. Good family movie.

Friends with Benefits, Kutcher and Portman, Netflix streaming

Couldn't have been more predictable. Felt like I'd seen it a hundred times. Not sure why they even bothered.

Odd to see Kevin Kline in this this, he's usually pretty picky. Course I heard the same about Portman when this came out.
