[Yeah, keep throwing them tomatoes. I got pasta boiling.]
I'd really have the say the best conceptualized movie monster, mentioned upthread, is H.R. Giger's alien: organic, machine, violent--penile, fitting the sexual politics subtext of the film--pure menace. Henry in Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer gave me nightmares. I hear they're doing a remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. [Gamera.] Then there's Samara from The Ring. And on an episode of Rod Serling's Night Gallery, there was a creature that was sealed in a well that scared the crap outta me.
"The Thing"; so freaking scary and disturbing and the ending was a big question mark. Was Childs the Thing or not? Most say yes, so what happens when they find Macreedy and his body?
Jaws and Aliens 1 and 2 are right up there. But all the other Aliens movies were so bad that I don't even consider them having been made. Predator was the same way. Awesome first movie, very lame sequel, then it just got silly.
I cannot believe this! I just sat down to start up a thread on 'favorite movie aliens', and here was this one right at the top. And, better yet, MY favorite one wasn't mentioned yet!
My very favorite movie monster (as well as the movie itself) is "The Predator". He was big, strong, agile, menacing, most horrying-looking (truly "uglier than a m-----f-----", as declared by our man, Arnold), had a unique motive, infrared vision, and was a changeling. How I would LOVE to be able to blend in with anything I wanted to.
That's a good one Bluesbabe however even the Predator can't top this one .

THE THING remake freaked me out when the upside down, severed head sprouted antennae and legs; then ran off.... .

Debatable I give Mothra tops...Godzilla second; they are BOTH indestructible! They both have never really lost a war, only some battles . Here is an official top 10...LOL.
Wish I had a more orig answer but yeah it's gotta be Godzilla. Hon mention to King Kong and of course the "classics" of Frankenstein, Dracula.
