Shrieve is killer, much better than Mitchell imo.

No one plays groove, or has a signature sound. Guys like Joey Kramer from Aerosmith, John Bonham, Keith Moon, are long gone.

When was the last time you heard a newer drummer play a half-time shuffle like Bernard Purdie? Or Jim Keltner funk like on Steely Dan's "Josie"?

Everyone is playing technical off-beat stuff that DOES NOT make me wiggle in my seat or tap my foot. And it's all buried in reverb. ICKK!!

I will say that Ray Luzier has a good groove and sound, but he's the only new kid on the block I think much of.
According to Wikipedia, Joey Kramer is still alive.

Joe russo is an incredible youg drummer, vinnie amico (not young not old), kris Myers, I'f say they're all better than Bonham and especially Joey Kramer. Bonham had a killer right foot but holy cow is he ever overrated, that whole band was.

Don't know too much about drummers and drumming, but someone turned me on to Billy Cobham recently, and he seems pretty good.

Check 'im out here:

Bill Cobham / George Duke Band - Juicy

Also, saw this documentary on Ginger Baker, and was pretty entertained.
Maybe you all would like to check it out as well...?

Love me some Cobham, and Baker. That Doc. is a riot, kind of sad at times, but a great watch.

Akira Jimbo with Cassiopeia.

He's a MIDI master, start at 2:35 for just the music, watch from the beginning to see the whole set up.

Sean Rickman is one of the best out there right now, he plays really amazing time signatures as fluid as a 4 x4 beat.

One more of Rickman with a few masters.

One of the most innovative is Nate Wood, not flashy at all but just great jams and improv

Dino Danelli from the Rascals is a monster drummer, but most people don't know it since their music is mostly pretty low key.
