Maybe that Buddy Rich video is good technical drumming, but it sounds like a mess and I'd leave after 2 minutes of him jerking off to his own skills. It's like watching Tom Brady throw footballs through the goalposts.
Do with in service of an actual song and I'll think it's cool. It reminds me of Eddie Van Halen where the rest of the band totally drops away while he plays all crazy or SRV where the band plays but it's boring generic crap while he goes crazy. Hacks, the lot of them.
