How about Marshall Tucker Band's Fire on the Mountain. It is a song about a man taking his family from Carolina to California during the gold rush. Always thought it was a cool and unusual topic for a song.
"She Bop", Cindy Lauper. About, in the words of Butthead of Beavis and Butthead, "gettin' the job done". Tipper Gore and the PMRC put it on their "Filthy Fifteen" list, and it required "Parental Advisory" stickers. And Martha Quinn and Nina Blackwood played it a lot.
"They Dance Alone (Cueca Solo)" is a protest song composed by Sting.
Sting explained his song as a symbolic gesture of protest against the Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet whose regime killed thousands of people between 1973 and 1990. The song is a metaphor referring to mourning Chilean women (arpilleristas) who dance the Cueca the national dance of Chile alone with photographs of their disappeared loved ones in their hands.
