Just curious as to how much people are coping(if at all affected by the increase in gas prices).

We're obviously all affected,.even those that don't drive.
Point being..if gas goes up, your airfare goes up, groceries etc.

Just curious as to what the commuters on the forum have to say, perticularly the ones that drive a lot.

I am very fortunate as I work from home all day everyday. But I have noticed packaging has changed on alot of products I buy... smaller packages..same price! Like we won't notice? it's damn close to 4.00/gallon out by me. Diesel is even higher. My crew works throughout NJ and I'm not looking forward to my fuel bill this month. One vehicle has two tanks and it was close to 100.00 every other day to fill and that was when gas was at 2.79ish. Something has to give! This will cripple the economy! Forget recession...I smell depression! You would think by now, Bush would open up the reserves. I've also noticed McCain piggy backing on this issue..promising to lower gas tax... by now we all know that all politicians make promises that they can't keep as they really don't have the control they lead us to believe they have! Anyway..I'll get off my soap box now..it's a shame what has happened to this great country of ours over the past 8 years!

I drive about 90 miles round trip per day. I fill up every 4 days or so. I cut way down on non-essential driving. Been cutting back on "extras" at the food store. Buying meat in bulk when on sale and utilizing my second freezer quite a bit.

I don't drive, gf does all that, but she drives alot. I walk to the train (no sense wasting gas just to have it take 3 minutes instead of 10), and only go food shopping every other weekend. Thinking about buying a second freezer though.

Oil prices? Now thats a whole different story. That was really hurting me this heating season. Gas? Meh, I hate driving anyway. My sportbike gets 70mpg though

Remember many, many years ago...folks were installing their own gas tanks in their yards! people fighting..actually getting killed waiting on line for gas? Alternate fill up days based on your lic plate number? And what was the price back then...a buck a gallon! I guess my point is "this too shall pass"..hopefully!

That was awful, even license plates on even days, odd license plates on odd days. I made a bunch of money as a kid selling cold drinks that summer to the people waiting on the lines for hours.

I hopped onto the GSP today for gas since it was 20 cents cheaper the other day. Not today, only 6 cents less than the station near my house. Not worth it. Now when I go out, I make all the stops I can on one outing. My husband drives alot and these prices are like getting a pay cut for him.
