Sandy worse than Katrina?

I don't recall Katrina being that bad, I was still able to get gas and food in Nutley during Katrina.

No, Katrina killed 2000 people and cost much more than Sandy will.

Katrina was FAR worse than Sandy. There is no area affected by Sandy that doesn't have an unaffected area a short distance away. Overall people are wealthier and will be able to financially recover easier. Most people will be able to go back to work within a few weeks if they aren't already. There are more competent people in charge of recovery efforts and things were set into motion before the storm hit for relief. There aren't dead bodies floating in flood waters, and people aren't sitting on roof tops and bridges a week after the storm still waiting to be rescued.

Katrina was like a disaster in a third world country. I was in New Orleans a year ago, there are still block after block after block of houses that you can look through the front window and see out the back. Empty, abandoned shells and board-ups. Block after block. It was gut wrenching. That's not going to happen in NY and NJ. Within weeks we'll see lots cleared of debris, and by Christmas we'll see construction rebuilding homes and businesses.

Plus Sandy's impact was felt across a longer area than Katrina (at lest 4 times the area than Katrina).

Only because Wall Street was closed for a couple of days, the AC casinos were closed for a couple of days, and real estate is worth 1000 times what it is in LA. You can buy a one acre building lot cleared and ready to go for under $10K in Slidell. You can't buy a 50 x 100 building lot in NJ or the NYC Metro for under $50K. There were very few million dollars homes lost in Katrina. There will be thousands in Sandy.
