I found the best NJ pizza right here in North Carolina.
Our local Lowe's supermarket has been getting pizza dough from Middletown, NJ, and Anthony's Italian Bread from Vineland. When we want pizza it is made right here at home, on my perforated Calphalon pizza pan in our very hot convection oven, thin, crispy and less then $3.00.
To quote a former NJ Governor, "NJ & Pizza Perfect Together."

No question that there is lots of bad and mediocre pizza in NYC, then again, as Joe Torre is reputed to have said about sex and pizza: "When they're great, they're terrific, and even when they're sorta lousy, they're still pretty good.."

Seriously tho, the city has a lot of commodity level crap in terms of food, but I think that the more well considered thought is that the really good pizza is some of the best anywhere. Also, I have to stick up for Johns on Bleeker..... I have eaten there a lot over the years, and there are some things to keep in mind.... it is very thin crust pizza baked in a wood fired brick oven which makes for a very particular 'sub-style' if you will. If you don't dig the style, you wont dig the pizza. If you do (as do I) it is some of the best.... fresh crust, fresh mozzarella, etc.... yumm!

That said, some of the really best overall pizza can be found in beat up looking dives that you can see just off the highway on (lets say, for example) Route 46....

They don't hold a candle to Papa John's, KMG. If you blindfold me, I can tell the difference instantaneously.

What about a triple blind taste test Papa John's vs Little Ceasars vs Domino's. How could you tell the difference between three such wonderful tasting pies?
