Honestly you could give Newark schools 1 billion dollars and it wouldn't make a difference. Its not about money. Money doesn't buy parents or a community that places a high emphasis on education. My sister graduated from Newark schools and earned a 4 year scholarship to Seton Hall. She had the same teachers as the other kids thing is my father and mother had expectations. Acting like a fool as not an option. Always doing her best was the only way. If more families had those expectations all the money would not be wasted.
Any development in the Ironbound and downtown would need the river cleanup to be integrated with it. Look at the parks along the Hudson in Bayonne, Hoboken or NYC.
what did the financial guru jon corzine do to fix NJ's economy. JC was the go to guy for Biden and Obama, HRC would have made him head of the treasury if she won in 2008.
You don't get a guy with better financial credentials than JC. If JC was a flop what do you expect form CC? Veto tax hikes by the dem legislature? Cap tax hikes...ecept for the little muni fiefdom where you live?
Now we have a bold faced unashamed Dem senator who watches over collosal waste and inefficiency telling taxpoayers they need to pony up via a gasoline tax. A dedicated tax that NJ's constitution says can be shifted to the 'general fund'. How many dedicated taxes have gone the way of the 'general fund'?
CC is not alone, we have two dem dominated houses, what are they doing to help NJ's economy? Oh that's right they are showcasing a 'suddenly' failing infrastructure and slowing traffic and transport down to 'punish' the taxpayers into handing over more cash.
The circle will not be broken until the demdominance is broken.
NJ news mentioned the 100 milluion$$$ Zuckerberg gave for newark edu, so far it has all goine to consultants to interpret consultant findings. The 100 million $$ needs to be the thread to follow to unravel the cover that hides the corrupt and legally corrupt bottom feeders that do their best to keep NJ down.
As I repeat, New Jersey is the most affluent state in the U.S. with top rated schools and the highest concentration of engineers.
I changed to few other township, this is just mind boggling. Ppl forget about cops, select board of education from above link and see where your property taxes are going. Not sure what percentage of property taxes are going towards pension liability.

I am on another board where I get to respond to conspiracy crazies. The newest one is that Obama's entire life is a fraud set up years ago. Everything about him has been manipulated even prior to him being born.
At least with that crazy conspiracy they do not blame bankers and Jews.
It is a shame so many people vote on made up information. I do not care how people vote but at least know enough about things you complain about.
The pension issue needs to be fixed. Its beating on a dead horse. Get creative and strike a deal to fix this problem. Do something like this:
- Move new hires to a 401k plan with a generous matching program. Up to 10% match from the state. Cut healthcare benefits for all to the standard crap most people get.
- Anyone with under 5 years of service immediately gets a check reflecting 20% of salary per year worked put into a 401k account and also qualify for the minimum 10 year pension at age 65 (provided they work at least 10 years). They immediately switch over to the 401k plan.
- Anyone with 5 to 10 years of service gets the same deal as above, but would get the pension for the amount of years they have worked, plus 5 (ie someone with 7 years of service when this took effect would be at a pension reflecting 12 years of service).
- Anyone with 10 to 15 years of service years of service qualifies for both the pension and the 401k program. However, service time towards the pension is accrued at 1/2 speed going forward (ie 2 years worked only counts as one towards the pension).
- For current employees with 15+ years of service or who are over 50, no change to the current pension system whatsoever. Not eligible for the newly created 401k program.
I think something like that could actually be accomplished. Its still a generous retirement package, but its more of a "pay as you go" kind of a deal and does not put the taxpayer on the hook for so much debt for eternity

No match from the state, but all contributions are made pre-tax and are tax free with respect to earnings and income, and are tax free when finally distributed.
We have to stop the practice of employer responsibility for any part of retirement. The burden and benefit needs to be moved completely to the individual.
