If building a couple of new rail tunnels is too expensive then a cheaper alternative is for those NYC companies employing all those Dilberts in Manhattan is to have satellite offices across the river in NJ. This way their NJ workers don't have to schlep into the city everyday.
Plus you're not in contact everyday with the pointy haired boss but you can still brag about working for the Big Name Company in NYC.
No need for thousands to cross into NYC everyday to sit in your cube when NJ cubes are cheaper plus you save on commuter costs.
Leave the trip into NYC for the entertainment and dining options that you occasionally do.
Employer can't get top candidates outside of the city.
Then why do they need a new set of under river tubes? If the top Candidates are already in the city?
After 9/11 there was a hung boom of Re-Located into NJ, Some just on the other side of the river, other far out in Morris, Somerset, etc,
I think they need to Tubes, to get the diverse mix of Employees, A NJ based office, will not get the People who live in Conn, Long Island, or up in Westchester area that take the commuter rail into NYC, to meet up with the NJ talent who come in on PATH and/or NJTransit.

Uh, the JOBS are in the city, not necessarily the people. The city is much more expensive and most choose not to raise their kids their. Thus, the suburbs.
This sounds great in theory. But who will really convince all these companies to build offices in NJ and move some of their people there? And where do they find space, definitely not in Hudson county that is already over crowded.
But then how do the people from other areas get to these offices? From Queens, Brooklyn, Connecticut, Westchester, etc. The majority of the employers are not from NJ. Are you suggesting that companies should build offices in NJ specifically for NJ employees who can not easily get to Manhattan due to the criminally neglected and crumbling infrastructure. Hope you realize how unrealistic this is.
Plenty of low-occupancy office parks in NJ, but the major employers don't want to be there; they all want to be in the city, because that's the fashion nowadays.
there has definitely been companies spreading out to jersey city. some have left the region entirely. I know our chase bank team has been located in Newark, Delaware for a while and I friend employed by chase said that lots of jobs have moved out of the city. I would like the see NJ do more to target nyc businesses to come over.
They need a bridge and a tunnel. A bridge right next to the GW with extensive road construction all throughout the Bronx and Northern Jersey and a tunnel that pours right into Penn and GC with quick access to downtown. Of course this may necessitate a gas tax so I guess we can forget about it.
