Thanks for posting the factual numbers Jersey Gent. The data proves everything should be reopened by now, including indoor dining. Numbers continue to drop, despite what the debbie downers want.

I think we're almost there. Number of people on ventilators is negligible. If the trend continues all next week, everything should be open.

The Debbie Downers are probably looking for AZ, CA, & FL as to what happens when the state tries going full business-as-usual too soon.

Came back from Chicago last week where indoor dining and bars/clubs are open. Masks required when moving about, mandatory distancing, no mingling with other tables, no dancing, etc. This is what NJ should aim for during phase 4 IMO.

I am not saying NJ should go back to full BAU. However, we can safely reopen restaurants and bars (no clubs) with strict guidelines. If any particular places have a problem with following the guidelines, then close them down. If any venues have COVID cases tracked bsck to them, close them down for 14 days.

Based on today's behavior in Long Branch, I wouldn't be too sure about that. Take a look at the photos, and see if you consider this to be responsible behavior during a Pandemic.

People are tired of being couped up for months. Human reactions were actually quite normal. We are not robots. Humans are social creatures and psycologically cannot handle being stuck inside forever.

The police and beach patrol were a little late cutting off the beach (and enforcing the capacity guidelines). In this case, they are to blame for reacting too late.

it has to end sometime. at some point we must return to some normalcy , either there’s a vaccine or we live with the virus. but living in fear amd being lockdown is not living.

For the first time since May, no coronavirus restrictions are scheduled to be lifted in New Jersey this week. The reopening of indoor dining remains off the table after a planned date was scrapped, and movies and gyms remain closed indefinitely.

New Jersey is still in Stage 2 of a multi-step reopening plan, after the state went into a near-total shutdown in mid-March to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

New Jersey will likely remain in this phase of reopening for a while, Gov. Phil Murphy has said. Moving forward in reopening depends on the rate of transmission and the rate of positive tests remaining low, among other factors.

The transmission rate crept above 1 briefly last week, meaning each person who gets COVID-19 infects at least one other person, for the first time in 10 weeks in late June. That step above 1 was a factor in stopping indoor dining, and requiring masks outside, Murphy said.

“We’re not gonna be jumping the gun on a whole lot more opening-up steps right now,” Murphy said during a July 6 coronavirus press briefing.

Once the rate of transmission drops again, more steps will be taken to reopen, Murphy said. The rate of transmission is currently .98.

“We’re here right now. My guess is we’re gonna be here a bit,” he said last week.

The last time New Jersey went a full week without reopening something was the week of May 11.

The Motor Vehicle Commission was the most recent service to reopen in New Jersey, welcoming customers on July 7, though that led to massive lines and delays due to months of pent-up demand.

Indoor dining was set to reopen on July 3, befor e being abruptly canceled three days ahead of the scheduling opening. A new opening date has not been provided.

Stage 1 began on May 2, as state parks and golf courses reopened. It lasted until the week of June 9, and included beaches, camping, elective surgeries, and the lifting of the stay-at-home order.

Stage 2 began on June 15, and included outdoor dining, nonessential retail, casinos, the MVC, and salons.

It’s not clear when New Jersey will move into Stage 3, which could include limited entertainment, bars and expanded dining.

Stage 3 is the final numbered stage before New Jersey moves into a “new normal.” Murphy has said a new normal likely won’t take shape until a vaccine or treatment for the coronavirus is widely available.

This is the confusing part. His "Stage" reopenings seem to separate bars from restaurants because Stage 2 was supposed to include limited "indoor dining", which has been delayed. But, Stage 3 includes bars reopening at limited capacity. Yet, he almost reopened BOTH back on July 2. Today, he just repeated that he cannot reopen indoor dining yet. When pressed on it during the news conference, Murphy basically said he needs to see a sustained decrease in the RT rate and hospitalizations over a "period of time". He repeated that the RT rate rose above 1.0 last week, then went down again over the weekend. I have a feeling he is waiting to see what Cuomo does for NYC first. NYC is set to reach the final Phase of reopening next Monday. I am very curious if thats when NYC will finally allow indoor dining....in which Murphy will surely follow like Cuomo's sheep. However, Philadelphia's health commissioner has said he wont revisit the indoor dining possibility there again until at least Aug 1.
