Just got an email my YMCA is reopening. Yes, limited, but it's still a glimmer of hope....

They're working with much smaller numbers to begin with. That's why it's so easy to manipulate statistics when you're trying to paint a certain picture. Are you in a better place if cases decreased from 3500 to 2500 in a week or increased from 100 to 300 in one week ? (not saying those are the actual numbers, just making a point)

Aren't the percentages supposed to be per capita? If so, shouldn't matter. We shouldn't be using fuzzy math, but I guess here we are.

New Jersey is supposed to be the most densely populated State in the Union, is it not?

I was talking about Alaska jumping to 134% in two weeks. Not sure what that has to do with NJ being densely populated.

I'm actually a little surprised we're doing as well as we are with the beaches being packed like sardines (see Florida) but hopefully our downward trend will continue.

Well, per capita and population should be directly linked.

As to the re-opening.. Gotta do it sometime, we do not live in a perfect world. Beaches could be a spread point.. Truthfully, I don't know how a lot of things are going to be able to go back to opening AT ALL! (Madison Square Garden, beaches, .. by extension, boardwalks and casinos and other entertainment venues.) It just doesn't seem possible to be 6 feet apart where there used to not even be Standing Room Only. Not even sure how the trains are doing it. Or the buses.

Where I work, we don't wear mask, OR it is pulled under the chin most of the time, most workplaces are like that; They don't even take our temperature, honestly. There is so much variation.. I think people are starting to take the hint: "This ends soon, give us our life back." But now, we all want to hide in our house. In the middle of the summer....

I still think (backed up by a couple doctors - one I know personally and one online acquaintance) that you have a certain percentage of the population who is/was more susceptible to getting the virus, and that they'll all get it no matter if it's now or later. With NJ having had early cases before much was known or suspected, if that's true, then most of those susceptible people will have gotten it already. Those who didn't, are less likely to get it now, even if things have opened up and beaches are crowded.

That, plus it is hot out, and the virus dies in the heat.

That, plus, the masks impede breathing and really aren't very good idea when it is hot outside because you have to breathe.

Right so it should be even HARDER for Alaska to jump to 134% in two weeks. Doesn't make any sense.

If only we'd had an organized response from the beginning we might actually have some useful information by now, but right now most of the country is an absolute mess. I texted my son he needs to move here. He's in LA. His response was, "I wish!"
