Do you enjoy living in New Jersey? Why or why not?
I love living in Jersey. I feel that every state in the US has it's own negatives and positives, no matter where you go, they will have plusses and minuses for their own reasons.
My hub wants to live in Florida where I don't want to go, it is too hot there, I also don't want to experience their storms, the minuses outweigh any of the the plusses, which would be a lot of people that I know living there. It seems that a lot of my graduating class have moved to various parts of Florida, plus I'm petrified of alligators and snakes, which we do have snakes here in South Jersey.
When both of my parents immigrated here in the late 50's, they chose to come here. They lived in North Jersey. I was raised in Union County. I relocated to South Jersey in 93, I do miss my friends in North Jersey but I do not miss the traffic up there. I miss Watchung, the mountains there. I was up there in August showing my grand kids where I grew up, I took them to Johnston Drive, 13 bumps. They loved seeing how far up we were. The food is so much better up there then here in South Jersey.
I once had a crazy woman insisting that I was really a gay guy because "the Lord had revealed it to her" and kept imploring me to repent of my sinful ways.
Sorry, old straight woman here, gave birth and everything.
Because I am six feet tall, I could probably throw on a wig, some false eyelashes, heavy makeup, etc., and pass for a drag queen!
But no thanks. I prefer to continue to cultivate my old-hippie-woman persona. Except when I am in my part-time businesswoman disguise.
Loved living in NJ. Grew up in two place's , Essex County and Monmouth County. Didn't lock the doors in either place when growing up in the 50's,60's and 70's and even into the 80's. Still have much family in NJ and I'm there 4-5 times a year. Things change, friends move on and away and I(you) change. I would not move back because as I said before distance issues with kids and Grandkids not with the State of NJ.
Seems like the majority of the answers are from North Jersey.
Living in Mercer County (down my block is burlington county) for over 50 years now. Very happy here. Cost of living isn't quite as nuts , our property taxes are still under 10K for a decent house with a half acre of property....not too far from the shore, mountains a little further away... we are closer to Philly then NY, but visit both....
it's not as horrible as people say.... and no where has the pizza we have. or bagels. rolls. hoagies. Sorry, but i prefer ours to NY....
Grew up in North Jersey, but have lived in South Jersey for decades. I like this state, and I like South Jersey. We have decent weather and great "eds and meds" in nearby Philly. I could do without the winter, but nowhere is perfect. Our taxes are low compared to our family in North Jersey, although I suppose people from other states would still consider our taxes to be high. I love the Shore and I love the Pine Barrens. I don't miss the traffic in North Jersey, which I still encounter fairly often when I visit family.
I am torn about whether or not to leave New Jersey. Right now it's where I am, and I did have plans to move pretty far away, but those plans ended with the death of my fiance earlier this year.
I'm feeling right now like one of those horror movies where the people are walking for hours only to find themselves back in the place where they started. Part-time work (which is mostly in the city) has been most helpful, but I am officially retired and won't be doing that forever.
The traffic in Monmouth county is from hell. It's gotten exponentially worse since I moved there from Bergen County in 2010, and it's so frustrating to have to crawl along and sit at five red lights just to go to the post office or something. Luckily, only one light to get to the supermarket three minutes away. It is only going to get worse when Netflix builds their studio.
Occasionally I do think about staying in New Jersey, but moving to where it's a little less crowded. Closer to the Delaware River, maybe.
