I just moved to SC and if the taxes were lower in NJ I would have stayed but only if I could live in Monmouth County. It's not just about the taxes it's also the corruption.
Yes, we would live in NJ in heartbeat, if it wasn't for the cost. I *love* NJ... it truly is very unique. It's just so darn expensive. That would be the only reason for us living somewhere else.
I'm from NY orginally, lived in NJ for the last 5 years and late that my property tax goes up a few hundred bucks each year. The town is corrupt, it's stupid to have a new police force, school system and borough/city hall every five blocks and force each town to be self-suficient. I still have to commute to NYC for work, interviewed several places for jobs but they all want me to have a big pay cut (as if living in NJ is any cheaper than NY). They need to consolidate towns!!! They do absolutely nothing in this town - I'm ready to run, can't gt a nice single fam for under 700K
We are looking to move back. We decided that we wanted out one-year old son to grow up with grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. Getting everyone to move down here hasn't worked so well
Honestly, though, the taxes and house prices are scaring the crap out of us. Not to mention the horror that moving is.
I love NJ. We are leaving because of a job transfer, and I will go kicking and screaming all of the way. Yes we do have high taxes, but in return we have great schools- and high taxes are still much cheaper than private school.
We have NY, a great diversity in living: rural to city and everything in between, culture and sports, the beach, etc.
I also think we have GREAT people- interesting, smart and real....
Yeah I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't leave if it were not for the taxes and corruption, but this is sort of an impossible question in a sense.
The tipping point has already been reached in my mind. There is nothing, short of an act of God, that could end up with this state having lower taxes. Perhaps corruption could be reduced, but that is even somewhat tenuous.
So in the future you can look forward to your taxes increasing year by year pretty much for the rest of your life. There might be an off-year where the Political bosses in Trenton decide that you can have a respite from the tax increases, but that will be the exception and not the rule. If it were not for this reality, I don't think that so many people would be fleeing the state, and in fact the entire NYC metro area, for cheaper places in the country like FL and NC.
No, I would not move back by choice. But hey ya never know what will happen in life.
N.J. has the best food and pizza there is. I miss people from N.J. That is probably about it.
Hmm, just wish it was closer to Arizona so I could visit more offten.
And I miss the east sarcasm and sense of humor
I would stay if it was affordable. But as we're approaching retirement age the cost to maintain our life style is way to high in NJ.
