How about the Perth Amboy waterfront? Few will argue the beauty of that.
The problem is the inefficiency of the way the area is run. I like not being landlocked and having easy access to all the major highways, rather than constantly sitting in traffic on roads that are over capacity or stuck behind one driver.
Eastern Monmouth has many scenic areas, a personal fave would be the Atlantic Highlands area, which I would take over Sandy Hook. The coastline has many nice spots, but I would not want to live in the inland burbs. As you get further south on the coastline though, the beaches are nicer.
Asking to know what the nice spots are is snobbery? Really?
As for Perth Amboy or Atlantic Highlands vs. North End Sandy hook I think the difference there is just a simple preference for nicely landscaped vs. natural settings. I supposed our preferences are self evident based on our choices.
As for Cheesequake, I have camped there (did not realize it was Middlesex thanks for the heads up) and for where it is, it is lovely, but you get better Pine Barrens and Cedar Swamp the farther south you go.
So maybe it is a south eastern Monmouth Co preference since I live just about as south and east as you can get. That being the case what is it do you think that makes Middlesex better than Southeastern Monmouth co? I would actually like to go see some places.
This post is a pure snotty Monmouth Co down-your-nose view of the rest of the state kind of statement.
I really have to disagree with you. The people of Monmouth Co have great respect for those in Middlsex and the rest of the state. I was just at the most recent Monmouth County Ridiculosly Good Looking Gazillionairs meeting and we all concured that Middlesex Co has the best servants in the state. We find them very obedient and trainable with the exception of a few who can't seem to comprehend "Wait for the shake".
I find you very uppity Charles and I like that quality. I happen to have a position available you would be perfect for. You see I just had a regulation indoor soccer field installed in the left wing of my mansion and I'm looking for a replacement goalie that my Monmouth Co Gazillionaire friends can have a few cocktails and kick balls at. It would only be temporary, until my old goalie gets over his concussion. Think of it this way, it's extra money to spend at that Home Depot you people seem to Love so much.
Anywho, gotta run the Sulton of Brunei is on his way over.
Every Middlesex town has cheaper taxes than Manalapan or Marlboro. I know my town runs efficiently.
You are missing the point. The idea that addition of a Home Depot would have some kind of negative impact on the community is a product of pure snobbery.
wrong. i've given you the link in the past so you can do the research. in fact, there are only *3* in Middlesex County that have an effective tax rate *lower* than those 2 towns.
If you are talking about Rt 18, I agree with you. It is horrible. I know every way around it possible.
They have been improving Rt 1 though, it's better now than it used to be.
I travel between Middlesex, Monmouth & Ocean pretty regularly and Route 9 in Monmouth may be the biggest POS highway in central NJ - even worse than 18. Every light is timed wrong. You get a green light, you go another 1/4 of a mile to another red light. Just the worst.
And any area with Lakewood in it shouldn't really be looking down at anyone. It's like a shtetl fell out of the sky and somehow landed in a poor shore town. Brooklyn with more pine trees.

Not sure why anyone would jump in this thread to knock this town. It's one of the best in NJ if you can afford it.

Lakewood is really crappy but I don't think many consider it a "shore" town. I mean, as I see it, if you have absolutely no waterfront on the ocean or bay, you don't have much of a "shore" to speak of.

Finally someone agrees with me on this issue. And you also notice the road narrows from three lanes down to two as soon as you cross the Middlesex/Monmouth border as well.
I would have also said Rt 9, but 9 eases up once you get up into Middlesex.

The coast is of course the coast and I am not going to argue that, really, but as you get away from there I would rather be in Middlesex County than the inland Monmouth County areas.

I don't think being anti-Home Depot has anything to do with snobbery. Many people don't like the idea of a huge national chain in their town. It has to do with retaining a small-town feel ... what does that have to do with snobbery?
