Hello, I am from Colorado and I want to become a teacher. I have a BA in English with a minor in education (which included a 30 hour student teaching internship), a TESL cert and some volunteer teaching experience both in the USA and abroad. My Spanish is decent (I can always learn more) and would love to teach secondary school English or TESL.
It seems to me that the job market is too competitive in Colorado for teaching, especially for someone in my situation, e.g. someone without a teaching license. I can't afford to go back to school for a year to get my license the traditional way as I have small children and can't afford daycare.
I know that New Mexico offers the OPAL program and I'm very interested in pursuing this option. I love New Mexico and would be willing to live/work anywhere in the state.
Can anyone tell me if people actually get hired in NM on alternative teaching licenses and what the job market is like?
Thanks so much for your help!
Happy Holidays!

I meant to say a 120 hour internship, oops! Also, I know there have been lots of posts about teaching in New Mexico but most of them are outdated. Does anybody have a more updated experience/opinion on the subject? Like how many jobs and how competitive? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I do not know any personally, but I've heard its done commonly at the rural schools. Might be quite a bit harder at an urban school where you're competing with already certified teachers for the job.

I've not looked at the site in depth, but you could start here:
