Are there any Barbershops in Raton? Raton sounds like the place for me! I'm tired of living in this "hotbox" they call AZ.
A quick visit to google maps reveals approx. 4 barbershops in Raton. For a town its size, I think you'd be hard-pressed to break in.
I've heard from people in Taos that they're pretty dissatisfied with their choice of barbers (mainly on a $$$$ basis). Similar climate, richer client base, larger community, larger influence of out-of-towners.. might be a worthwhile alternative.
Raton gasoline costs are 40-50 cents/gal higher than ABQ/SFe. Pretty location though.
Although Gasbuddy.com confirms the price difference as of today, there usually isn't anywhere near that level of difference. Since gas prices are dropping nationwide (end of summer, sluggish economy), wouldn't be surprised to see that difference disappear in the next month.
I do believe Raton tends to get its gasoline from Colorado, given the different octane ratings I see on the pumps there (85 for regular unleaded vs. 86 for the rest of the state).

It was painful to pay $3.59/gal yesterday, when only a couple days before I paid $3.08 in ABQ.
I was just looking at the city-data information on Raton. I wonder why the population has dropped 13% between 2000 and 2009. Is Raton hurting for employment or just too cold by the rest of New Mexico standards. A houses for sale site listed only 38 houses for sale and most at very rerasonable prices. At least compared with New Hampshire.

Raton's old people are dying off, and Raton's young people are leaving faster than newcomers are replacing them.
Given that Raton's cold climate is comparable to Colorado's, and Colorado's population and economic base are thriving beyond New Mexico's, don't think the cold is the reason.
