Thomas opposed the United States' entry into the First World War. He founded a magazine, The World Tomorrow, in January, 1918, and in 1921-22 he was associate editor of The Nation.
In 1922 he became codirector of the League for Industrial Democracy. Later, he was one of the founders of the National Civil Liberties Bureau (the precursor of the American Civil Liberties Union) and The Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy. He was an unsuccessful Socialist candidate for Governor of New York State in 1924, and for Mayor of New York City in 1925 and 1929.
Norman Thomas said this in a 1944 speech:
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism," they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

I don't think bill richardson was in any wars started by the US either, that doesn't disqualify him from being a governor does it? and what about arnold, what army did he serve in? and california is bankrupt too, or, on the verge. so, I think I'll ask a moderator to move this thread to the P&OC forum.
While you're at it, move Mr. Kilmer to the Hollywood section of the California forum.
Without even looking at his politics or his idiotic statements in interviews, I just cannot see how he is experienced in leadership enough to run for governor. I would tell him to get involved on a more local/regional level before entering the gubernatorial race.
There are many more qualified people, some of whom I would vote for, and some of whom I would not, that will most likely be running.

When I look around I see staggering corruption and lingering degradation on a scale unprecedented in American History brought to us primarily by the last National criminal regime and associated republican Machiavellian chicanery and greed. The democrats surely participated in this chaos as well, but not to the breathtaking extent the repubs have insidiously engineered to scuttle our Democracy and seize perpetual power for themselves and their selfish interests. I see a Country hugely neglected and crumbling with infrastructure in every city in tatters because avaristic, lascivious uber-capitalists seized every opportunity to disenfranchise a sorely beset middle class and funnel every possible asset to the uppermost tiers of American High Society, deceitfully manipulating their gullible minions of Bubba "right is righters" to do their cynical bidding...while they outsourced their very jobs overseas!!!!!! Pathetic. Never again can these scoundrels and villains be entrusted with our future (and our children's future) without solid and ironclad constraints and provisions limiting their excesses at our collective expense. Never again be misled by their lies and dark subterfuge.
