Besides giving the squirrels & deer a little once in a while it's a all-around bad idea. You'll be attracting rodents which will in turn attract venomous snakes. You'll also be attracting and habitualizing coyotes to humans.
Well, I'm not a hunter, but I've heard there are some in my area that get into the spring turkey hunt. I'll eat turkey year round if our stores carried fresh turkey, and not the cold cut stuff.
If I were a pet owner, I would be concerned about wild animals feeding off New Mexican owned pets though. Household pets are more of an easy meal for a wild animal than a human is.
My dogs could outrun any of the wildlife here but I still don't let them out after dark.
We have a little fenced area on the side of the house and they go out there after dark if they have to take care of there business.
