For the month of November, I'll take it.
Rock hunting Tuesday.
Looks like I will be getting out of IL just in the nick of time... I leave next Sunday. Can't wait to get back to NM.

Well, it depends on which part of New Mexico you're coming to, as it's been cold up in the northern part of the state, some places already had snow.

Are those higher in altitude than Elephant Butte? I've heard that the area near the Lincoln National Forest gets quite chilly and receive measurable snowfalls, which is why I live near the Butte, it's very mild around here. I do love the forests as opposed to the high deserts of New Mexico mo better.

Alamo 4800' and Timberon 7100' But the winters in NM sure beat the heck out of Illinois winter.

The climate all year (in Timberon) beats the heck out of anything. Nicest climate ever.

It really does. Apparently it's protected from extremes. Too bad I can't have summers like that in Alamo.

Right now, I'm looking at eventually selling in Alamo, buying in northern NM....and later getting a place down around Alpine/Fort Davis.

But....one step at a time--to see how things pan out. I will most likely return to Texas when my skiing days are over.

Only thing it's not protected against is fire. There's another one tonight.

I hope all is well this morning. Unfortunately, heavily forested areas like Timberon, CC and Ruidoso are all more susceptible to fire.

And human idiots who start them.....

FIre was not in Timberon even though it picked up on the radio. Not sure where it was at but somewhere close by. Our fire dept. did not respond to it though.

People do things like starting fires because if they've never lived in a foresty type area before, they don't think about what a fire can do as opposed to living in a city.
In a city, you can burn trash, use a charcoal grill, etc. but chances of a fire getting out of hand are a lot higher here and most people don't think about it, they just do it. The winds are different also.
For example, the fire that was started here a couple of weeks ago was started by outsiders coming in, building a fire incorrectly in a grassy area. I guess they had no clue that a grass fire could spread so fast.
