We always had guns, for hunting. Traded the last rifle for hay years ago. Just have a .22 and a 20 gauge shotgun now. Neither have been used in years. Safely stored with locks on them.

After reading all these posts on guns I decided to purchase a gun yesterday. I bought a Renegade at Target. It should work just fine for me. It blasts up to 42 feet and holds 58 ounces of ammo. I feel like I am ready for anything. I filled it with ammonia to take on the neighbors 5 cats that keep cra**ing in my yard.

Default Rest of the story...

I could hit anything in range with it - even the blue scaled quail and jack rabbits on the run. I still have the gun but the safety no longer works and it can fire unexpectedly so it's only a keepsake now.

Once my granddad gave me that gun, my father was unable to complain any longer about my having guns and I've been an "out of the closet" gun owner ever since.

JDTH: Aw, be nice to the cats! At least just use plain water. They don't like it at all!

Catman,

I do love cats. My wife and and I have had a some pet cats over the past 30 years. I tried the plain water and it didn't stop them at all. They use my garden as their litter box. It will not continue. I thought about buying a pellet gun to stop them, but I decided that a fully pumped up squirt gun with amonia might work better.

I have both guns and rifles. 2 handguns, 3 shotguns, and 5 rifles. Yes, I hunt. With the handguns I am accurate out to about 25 yards, the shotguns have their own range limitations, 50 yards, max-with any degree of effectiveness. My rifles, not counting the .22's, I am accurate to about 500 meters with the .270 and about 800 meters with the 7mmMag. Browning makes nice rifles and Burris makes good scopes.

JDTH: Okay, I see your point!

Dusty: How accurate are you at 800 yards with the 7 Mag? I have one that seems accurate, but I don't have anywhere to shoot it over 100 yards.

In Ruidoso it's against village law to discharge anything that fires projectiles, including the BB guns and bows/arrows.

My answer to the cat problem was to buy a "live trap" and trap them when they frequent my yard, especially if they are cats I know do not belong to my immediate neighbors. I then take them to the Humane Society animal shelter and let them sort out what to do with them. Many times I've trapped feral cats and have been told they are put down - not adoptable. I use an ordinary can of cat food as bait.

Live traps are available at various retailers - including Ace Hardware stores, where I purchased mine some years ago.

PS - Using live traps can mean trapping other animals too - especially skunks! I've never had a problem with this since I simply drape an old blanket over the trap, move the trap to a safe release site, and let the wild animal go on its way.

Here in Roswell we are getting a huge gun store... Thats what I hear at least.... I am originally from West TX so you know the answer to that one. The craziest thing that I learned when i first moved here was going in to a pawn shop and seeing the owner with a gun on his holster off his hip. Open carry was kind of a shock! But then again here in Roswell you need one, lol!
