It's funny how local character can be so overdone by Hollywood that they often miss the mark. Like watching Fargo, one could visit the suburbs of Minneapolis and expect everybody to talk like a Norwegan fisherman or a Canadian fur trapper. Or if everybody in Boston talked like they did in Good Will Hunting, Harvard would likely move their campus to Connecticut.

Yes I only got a few more weeks to go before the beutiful Southwestern scenery becomes a reality. The irony is the dry, sunny, and seasonal climate was one of the biggest draws yet it's going to be 75 here today and in the 80's the next two days with little to no snow to speak of all winter, now there's an anomole for Mass.

I saw Off the Map a few years ago on one of the cable movie channels, maybe it was Sundance channel. It is an excellent film, with beautiful scenery and a story that was about people that lived a mostly self sufficient life in an isolated place with few material items. A complete opposite of typical life in suburbia.

One of my favorite New Mexico movies was from 1988, The Great Milagro Beanfield War. Nearly a quarter century later, many things about that film still apply. There are still conflicts going on involving water rights, commercial development, local vs state vs federal control over land.

Exclamation A Real Treat

The 1962 movie, Lonely are the Brave will be on Encore's Western Channel this evening at 20:20. The Encore Western channel is 538 on DirecTV.

It's of interest because it was filmed in ABQ and the Sandia Mts. and shows the ABQ area as it once was and how it will never be again.

Two that come to mind are "Easy Rider" and "3:10 to Yuma". I mention them because the scenery is just as important as the acting.
The full "Easy Rider" movie is on youtube.com. It appears complete, it may have some ads from "crackle". It can not be embedded here. Go direct to youtube here: Easy Rider - YouTube

The full "3:10 to Yuma" appears to be here, free, to watch: http://viooz.co/movies/2212-310-to-yuma-2007.html

Cowboys vs Aliens was filmed in and around Abiquiu and the Ghost Ranch and showcases the area very nicely.
True Grit was filmed in northern New Mexico
Lost In America, partially filmed in NM
Due Date, partially filmed in NM
Paul, largely filmed in NM
Buffalo Girls
The Grapes of Wrath, filmed partially in NM
Two Guns (I stumbled upon a scene being filmed in Cerillos)
Fire On the Mountain (more Edward Abbey)
White Sands
Casey's Shadow

And, lets get this out of the way...The Lone Ranger *sad trombone*

Also, the movie Truth or Consequences, N.M was filmed in Nevada and Utah

What about television shows filmed in New Mexico? We all know Breaking Bad, but did you know that The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams was filmed largely in Ruidoso?
