I moved up 33 places on the studio list, so at least we have an idea of how the list moves. Obviously it all depends on how many people move out or upgrade to another apt., but this is nice to have just to get an idea of how long it will take.
Also, this has made me pay closer attention to my spending habits. One burrito a week from Chipotle will add up to about 2 grand by the time I get called. Now I have an incentive to put a little more away each month. Ideally, I would like to pay cash, but they also allow 50% financing, so maybe I'll allow myself a couple of burritos a year. Ha ha.
Can anyone who just got selected for the apartment tell me what is asked of you by management of Penn South to verify your residency?
What kind of documentation did they request of you?
Did you ask you for the last ten years of your tax returns?
Hi Snapple3,
If you were picked in the lottery, they sent a letter with items you had to send back. The only thing you had to do as far as residency was a photo id with your current New York address. The application asked for your 2013 income based on your NY state tax return, but you didn't have to send a copy.
I have not been asked to look at apartments yet, but I think your income is based on the previous year's tax returns. When you actually get an apt., there is more paperwork when you qualify for and close on the apt. There is at least one person who has been called and accepted on this site, so obviously that person can tell you better than I can. But, remember, this is NY real estate, so all your money ducks have to be in a row.
The website seems to be back up and running smoothly again. I moved 20 from 647 to 627 on 1 bedroom wait list. I asked for a terrace as it allowed me to check that off on a form they sent me. But I think the waitlist I'm on is for 1 bedroom regardless of terrace or no terrace. Probably when I get near the top they will skip over me when a 1 br without a terrace becomes available. That's what I think anyway. If I move 20 slots every quarter it will be in about 8 years that I will be offered an apartment. Since I would like a terrace I think it will be more like 10. I think I'll have a better idea by December when I know how many slots I moved in 1 year's time.
I just received a letter to view about 17 one bedroom apts and scheduled it for next week. Can anyone shed some light on what happens after we view the apts and the process afterwards? Is being called in to view apts mean you are pretty far along in the process or does alot of people get called in for that?
Also what does it mean if it says on my letter to view apts that i have 23rd choice of the apts I'm viewing?

I was on the list for a 1 bedroom with balcony and it took me 8 years for what its worth.
Your list number would be on the original letter but should have been updated now. You can go on the website www.pennsouth.coop and choose "waiting list inquiry", You have to put in your Computer No from the original letter and your current zip code.
I don't see the computer # but I do see the lottery number - 2014-88N?
What does that represent?
