Here is the thing you don’t know what federal requirements they are held to regarding this information we are assuming. This preventative measuring could even be the reason all documents are required to be uploaded thru the housing connect website which is a government website. Many times we make assumptions about thing from the outside within thinking things out

I agree and they do not provide a secure way to submit paperwork online either leaving us in a very vulnerable situation

I was denied at 180 broome because the girl wanted me to send my documents to a gmail account where everyone will have access to them. When I asked her if I can bring them in person she said no because of the lockdowns. They literally stopped processing me and put on the waitlist while I saw everyone with higher log numbers be asked for documents and talk about how lovely their apartments are.

Wow a Gmail account? I wouldn’t feel right with that either. I’m sorry that happened they should’ve provided a better alternative honestly.

stormgal - you don't sound like a karen lol

Another problem is that for some brackets/buildings, you have to recertify every year. They ask for literally everything now including paypal accounts and venmo. How do you change your acct # every year? It's definitely a legitimate concern.

I'm currently in a mini lottery for a single unit. I know for a fact that they solicited documents from over 100 applicants. So, over 100 people (including me) have this glimmer of hope and are feverishly sending/uploading all their personal docs for this mini lottery for a single unit. When I think about the possibility of a security breach it makes me sick, especially when Log #1-10 will likely end up with the unit.

gmail accounts are only encrypted at the first layer and no one asked me to upload documents to a cloud account.

I think I speak for everyone that we don’t feel comfortable sending personal and sensitive banking information where anyone behind that gmail account can see our documents. They should’ve had someone at the office receive my paperwork. And the issue is not that I didn’t do as they said, but that the process needs to be revamped in order to prevent identity theft and other forms of breaches. It was wrong what they did.

I think this issue is why all documents are now to be uploaded thru the actual housing connect website which is a government website it now negates the feeling of well anyone can access my info or my info isn’t encrypted.

Just like anywhere else, municipal employees within a certain agency may (or may not) have tiers which decide who accesses what information.

"The threesome also carried out a tax return scam where they stole the identities of over 30 people — including 20 kids — filing tax returns in their names and collecting over $38,000 from New York State, the DA’s office alleges.

Bailey Dostaly used her position at the New York City Human Resources Administration to access applicant files stealing the identities of the children to claim them as dependents and then collect on covid relief, prosecutors allege."
