Used to work in East Ny. I never saw so many druggies and beggars in my life. And this was the good section on Jamaica Ave by the Jackie Robinson during the day time. Felt like a third world country walking the street.
If we listed Brooklyn's most crime ridden/poverty stricken neighborhoods ENY would be #2 and Brownsville would be #1.
"East New York has been to hell — and it doesn't want to go back" was a headline used to describe it. That sums it up for me.

That's why the city made sure to rezone ENY first because they knew it could gentrify harmoniously, and spill over to ENY. Brownsville has a high concentration of projects, so that's a area they can't touch for a while, until more money pours in from the feds to wash it out. That will only happen when ENY gentrifys.
