from Bronx River Avenue to the Bronx River Pkwy like? I know it's Soundview, but not very long from just over the bridge from W Farms
The area where The Son Of Sam was born-1105 Stratford Avenue, in a book I read about him, said the area was bad even in the late 60's. was this true?
I know the area around Westchester Avenue between the Bx River and Bx River Pkwy and the surrounding blocks were always rough, but were they rough say as the area by the Hunts Pt terminal market or where Jimmy Carter visited (Charlotte St) in 1977 ?
if those living in Hunts Point. W Farms and Longwood in 1977 wanted to escape those areas, would Soundview be considered a viable alternative back in those days?
I often wonder about this also. But have never found any information. No eyewitness accounts or info on the net or anything.
I can't say that the area is experiencing substantial visible gentrification, but I do know that investors were aggressively purchasing portfolios of tenements in the area, rehabbing the apts and getting new tenants in. I met one such newbie (transplant from outside the city), the apt was a rehabbed, very nice open kitchen/livingroom, new bathroom, wood flooring etc 1 bedroom for $1,000.
How far along this process has occured before the crash, and whether they are still aggressively repositioning these buildings, I do not know. But due to the recent building sales/respositioning, new mixed income housing appearing, and other tenement buildings converting to co-ops, I don't doubt that this poster is seeing some new faces, which for decades even up to the early 2000s, just didn't happen (my neighborhood included).
The push from Manhattan and up through the Southern Bronx is real, but it is less likely to be "whites" and much more like to be working/middle class people of color.
I live on the other side of the bruckner in a co-op. This side of soundview, besides soundview pjs, is nothing like the other side of the bruckner. My building has a gated parking lot
They just opened a BRAND NEW CVS on Westchester btwn the Morrison-Soundview and St Lawrence station. If they are willing to put money into the area, that says alot. My friend from Queens was shocked to see it as well(he thinks BX is all poor people)...
A drive thru to boot!
I have been seeing more white people. Hell, im half white

lemme guess Lafeyette Estates?
I looked at one of the new units a few years ago...they could have at least changed the windows with all the plane noise! Im cool now, down in Clasons Point by the water
Umm..Clason Point is along the same flight route...so what are you complaining about? Sure the buildings are taller..but the planes fly right over Clason Point as well...and then on to Lafayette Estates and then Laguardia.

Yes, but the windows they had were big, old windows with little to no insulation. They looked to be single pane, and had minimal steel borders, with visible gaps between the edges and the frames...they rattled from the wind while i was in them.
I know where the planes fly, they fly right over the corner of my house were i sleep! And i love when people tell me the planes stop at midnight, they usually do, but if there is bad weather ive heard them at 2-3am
yeah, the whites u see down there are probably light skin hispanic or whites going to there methadone program.
Where is this treatment facility?
