to me, it's annoying-- but it could also be keyboard laziness for some people maybe. i've never written 'nabe' but sometimes i'm tempted to (lazy fingers)

It's probably not though. I'm sure it's just me being a arsehole.

'Pretentious' is exactly the right word! It's that same attitude leading people who use it to insist on cutesy names for the neighborhood in which they live.

Never throught twice about "nabe" as short for neighborhood, especially in writing. Its just shorter and easier. Keyboard laziness I guess. But I don't use it when I'm talking.

Like others here I do hate those stupid acronyms. Nolita? FiDi? SoHa?

Real estate people, spare me!

Default you know what else irritates me?

"Ramp up, shore up", very pretentious and those who use it sounds like they do to be part of the "in crowd"

I use "nabe" on this forum only - it was a cross between laziness and thinking it was an accepted forum shortcut - never said it aloud - nor plan to.

I also dislike the newer abbreviation of nabes.....oops there I go again....FiDI in particular makes me think of the jerkwad investment bankers I used to work around...eucch

Dumbo, lic, sobro, annnoys me, but it brings a nice ring to it. Down under the manhattan bridge overpass, south bronx for sobro. Just last nightI heard some out of towners people aka transplants or tourist on the n train saying that lic is the next stop and we going to lic. Soho means south of houston and not hudson. Whats next midtown aka mido.
