I just got a letter today as well. Going to look at the apartment in the next day or so. It's tough. I live in an amazing, albeit more expensive place. It's super bright, has amazing views and great neighbors.
I received a letter as well that said I must respond by May 27. As others have said, the person I needed to speak to was on vacation, but I did get in touch with someone at Wentworth who said that people receiving letters would be called in to look at the apartments and eventually to meet with the board. She could not give me a day when I would be able to see an apartment. She only asked for my list number and told me that there were 29 apartments available, that many people would not qualify, or have money for the buy-in and to stay tuned for an invitation. What was your list number on your letter, because it seems that you got in to see an apartment very soon?
Thanks for sharing, dequade2. You received a lot more information than I have been able to gather.
I wonder why they have so many apartments available at once. Weird.
It's going to take the board forever to meet with that many applicants. Since there was such short notice given with the letters, I assumed this process would go quickly. I think I was very very wrong.

You won't likely meet with the board. Instead you will see a building manager who will get your final numbers and send them on to HPD for final approval.
Mitchell Lama is not too concerned if you are the right TYPE of person, or color or creed, but rather if you qualify on the basis of family size, income, assets, location (usually FROM NY unless they take federal money...then anywhere.)
