I used to live in Brighton Beach and would visit the area often. It must've been near the projects or something because I don't remember having any encounters there. I mean, it's not a suburban fantasyland (neither is Brighton Beach or most areas of NYC for that matter), but I don't think there's anything wrong with the area.

I mean, there isn't anything of interest there, so it's not really an area you want to visit (I mean, you could go to a restaurant and hang out on the bay, but you could do the same thing in Manhattan), but I wouldn't consider it dangerous.

True, and a lot of violent riots going on there. Many say the pj's look worse than those built in Russia during the communist era. The prisons are also in bad shape.

It was a certified war zone. Any improvement in recent years?
This is the problem when ignorance meets fantasy, and people extrapolate nonsense as fact from their imagination. When you don't know, you simply don't know!

First Kings County Hospital is NOT located in Brownsville! It is located a few neigborhoods away in Flatbush, or to be precise, at the confluence of Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Wingate, and East Flatbush.

Kings County Hospital, as the name implies is the main public hospital run by the city of New York in Brooklyn. As a public hospital, KCH serves a large portion of low income people from all over Kings County. As a result of this, KCH receives the result of the violence which is too common to low income areas such as Brownsville and others.

As a result of the violent casualtie, KCH is the best equipped 'Trauma Center' in Brooklyn, and consequently is staffed by some of the most experienced 'Emergency' doctors in Brooklyn and the whole of the city.

This fact is likely the reason it was chosen by the Army Reserve for training. KCH receives intake from the entire borough, not exclusively Brownsville. Violent casualties, from Brownsville and elsewhere, are also received at Woodhull, another public hosptial, and Brookdale Hospital (which, jfyi, is the closest to Brownsville).

So, the 600 cases cited originate from the entire borough of Brooklyn, not soley Brownsvile.
