Or we could just stop subsidizing corn farmers. Then we'd have real sugar instead of HFCS, but no one wants to admit that's better nutritionally (not saying much but at least sugar is natural) and economically.

Sobro, I just can't agree with this. I think it's truly amazing how many more people these days are in to health and fitness as compared to just ten years ago.

Then again, it's also amazing to witness the obesity epidemic as well. No argument there, it truly is epidemic.

I think inactivity is as much the blame as irresponsible food choices. When we were kids we drank soda, ate fast food and were all slim and trim except for the one fat kid in the neighborhood, which caught a lot of hell for that. The difference was we ran the streets from dawn to dusk, we weren't slouched down glued to video games and multimedia apps. It's not just kids either.

On the other side of that coin is the explosion of health clubs and gyms. Back in the day you could maybe count on one hand any real fitness centers in a five mile radius.

People in NYC are just fatter than everywhere else. I see fatter people here than I do on Long Island. Also ethnicity matters...on a whole, blacks are far more obese than whites.

Default NYC Mayor going crazy.AGAIN

Well it seems like Mayor Bloomburg is going crazy again, this time trying to BAN drinks over 16 ounces... Come on... havent you stepped on peoples rights long enough ?? If I want a 32 ounce soda what business is that of yours ? No longer can you get a 32 oz soda, or coffee at Starbucks, but ANY drink ( other than fruit juice which has just as much sugar as soda or coffee ) .... You stopped smoking in all public places, restrict the people rights to keep and bear arms to protect themselves, and now this ?? Why dont you walk the streets alone in NYC ALONE for a change... and not with the 3 or 4 police officers that are armed to protect you ?? And now you want to tell my how much of something I can drink ? Wake up..... stop stomping on peoples rights..... and clean up that filthy city of yours from the garbage, the slums, the criminals and maybe then I will listen to you.. AND if it DOES somehow pass I will simply buy 2 16 ounce sodas... what next... restrict the number of sodas or coffees a person can buy per day ???

That is probably because of Gentrification. I mean most Gentrifiers tend to eat healthier and exercise more. Is the 'Real' born and raised New Yorkers that seem to be Fatter.

Yeah you don't tend to see any guidos trying to take care of their bodies and look good.

I see far more surrounding being healthy. There are countless weight loss type shows. We have seen McD and BK change their menu's to add and promote healthy options. Organic and healthy foods are becoming more popular. There will be people that are going to eat garbage. That's life.

There has to be better ideas then medicare/medicaid and social security. At least you pay into social security so that doesn't affect anyone but yourself. The other two are just saps on the middle class.

When did it become commonplace to whine about living until 90? People scream and yell about how they deserve health care. Most doctors can work out payments (usually cutting the amount without health care in half) for basic checkups. Medicines like antibiotics and such are incredibly affordable. Given tort reform and a clearing house of the excessive amount of money hospitals charge for nothing services you would see more doctors willling to accept higher risk patients at lower rates. We have this entitlement attitude towards health care. That we should be assured longevity. Some people get cancer and die young. Some people live to 90. If you contract a disease or illness then you better be paying for insurance or be ready to pay out of pocket. These proccedures are expensive and time consuming which also requires a brilliant mind to execute.

I do NOT, and will NOT, ever agree to universal health care because it ruins health care for the people that have it which is a majority. It doesn't make anything better for it's citizens, just gives more power to the government to control the citizens.

^ most people in this country, including
yourself, most likely, can not afford to
pay all their medical bills when they get
gravely ill, therefore they just stick uncle
sam with the bill. what's so hard to
understand about that?
