apvguy I am well aware of the harsh treatment of asians....there is enough hate for everyone on this board to claim their people have suffered. The real issue is though...the chinese were in small numbers, and they did not have the historical legacy of complete oppression and domination that STILL exists today. That is not to understimate their plight...but the two are not comparable.

nonsense, the difference is that the chinese moved on while the africans still cling to their oppression as a crutch. In other countries, which had larger numbers of slaves from africa imported, the africans there aren't as hung up on the slave issue and they've become more integrated in their societies, only in the US, where people use the issue to maintain divisiveness for their own profit is blaming the past so prevalent.
Move on and prosper or remain in the past and suffer, the choice is yours

I agree, as a reasonable and logical person, to move on, integrate and prosper...and many have. But there are also too many that haven't...who would prefer living in isolation..with no resources, money..no prospects...no hope...surrounded by crime, violence, and dysfunction...in the wealthiest country in the world no less?

Clearly there must be something else at play here. And to dismiss 500 years of ingrained hate on both sides because the last 40 years black people became equal is naive and silly. In my day to day life, I see what is happening and it is clear to me that the remnants are still alive and well. It is not fair for me to blame everything on historical racisim..and I don't..but it is also not fair for you to just say "nonsense" and everything is perfect either.

Not everyone in the Black community holds their oppression as a crutch. Many have tried to move and prosper. But how would you feel if, when trying to move and prosper, you were denied a home loan because you were in a certain zip code? That was real! Or how about, even when you qualify for a conventional mortgage, you get offered a subprime? That is real, and a whole bunch of evidence exists that proves it!

if you can't get a loan in a certain zip code, maybe that place isn't that great of a place to begin with, try somewhere else, if you get offered a sub prime loan it probably is because you are a sub prime risk, take steps to improve your credit worthiness instead of whining about being a victim of discrimination. The victim complex is way too prevalent and leaning on it holds many people back

no, a few have been able to get ahead but the majority have not, in fact the ones that have been able to prosper are rejected by those left behind, the pressure is intense, comments like stay black are common. Kids in school that do well are preyed on and adults who do well are hit with you're a traitor comments.
the fact that the US is a wealthy country is irrelevant, the reality is that wealth in the US is attainable by anyone who is willing to work hard and unfortunately for many blacks they cling to the crutch of opression rather than dealing with if and getting ahead.
People like Bill cosby have tried to enlighten people but the majority of those who profit from the oppression complex have shouted him down, called him a sell out.
instead of listening to a man who has been very successful they reject what he has to say, they'd rather take direction from the al sharpton types who have only had success as oppression mongers rather than successful men like cosby

1) People were denied loans because they lived in a certain zip codes, not because they were trying to get into better ones!. That's called redlining. For example, back in the day, a bank could and would say no to anyone living in 10027. That's Harlem, and the racial makeup of that neighborhood is well known.

2) Studies are now proving that more Blacks, even with higher income and good credit, got offered more subprimes than whites.

While it is true the victim complex may have, to some extent, gone over the top, the above scenarios were/are real!

Asian people have their own set of issues in this country. Despite being a pretty upwardly mobile block of people they are basically absent on the political, and cultural landscape.

Perfect example, we're in the midst of an election year, do you ever hear of politicians actively campaigning for the Asian vote. Despite making up a significant portion of the middle class and upper class population (which could translate into a lot of votes), they are basically ignored.

Check back in 10-15 years, when the pop expands beyond Chinatown, Flushing and Southern Brooklyn (and it's growing!).

Also, John Liu is a very popular city councilman; and, could be a mayoral candidate. However, he needs to do more than just go after Hot97 (a station that has a few 'Asian' skits on record) to get into City Hall.
