It's probably the most needed line after the Second Ave Subway's Manhattan stretch. The population density is still very high there despite the lost units. You have numerous high rises and mid rises. From NYCHA to Melrose Commons. The potential for redevelopment north of Melrose Commons is great too. Lots of vacant and underutilized land, far north as Fordham Rd.
In addition to the third avenue el, I can't believe the city tore down the Myrtle Avenue el. Well, part of it is still there, but it went all the way down Myrtle Avenue to Jay Street Borough Hall and was torn down. Stupid. It should be restore, or failing that, at least a direct connection between the J and M trains and the G train for those wanting to go from Middle Village and Ridgewood to downtown Brooklyn.

It's funny... even in those old blueprints/master plans red hook still would have gotten s**t for service.

Red Hook once had a street car that fed commuters in and out of The F, G, and DoBro.

That's another thing, check out this street car map. Then they ripped them all out...

Some people would rather have no subway service than have elevated lines running through their neighborhood.

Didn't the streetcars get bought out by a General Motors-led conglomerate? Of course they'd rip them out because it's bad for their business.

Maspeth definitely. It has no subways at all, and to get to the city you need to take another bus first. I'm sure it couldn't hurt that much to extend the M-Line one more stop. Queens Village also needs a subway station (maybe they can extend the F-Line???) and Pomonok too
It would be nice if the M line connected all the way up to the Queens Blvd. subway lines.

First of all, I admit to being an out-of-towner so this may color my view. Rapid transit to LaGuardia. Although it is my (and many travelers') least favorite area airport, most of the flights seem to land there. Of course, cab drivers will disagree.

Middle Village/Maspeth is probably the closest suburban like area to Manhattan. The local population probably wants it to stay that way.

There was a time that Middle Village and Ridgewood preferred to disconnect itself from Brooklyn. Odd considering they (mostly) all moved from Brooklyn.
