I propose a modern 3 track concrete elevated rapid transit line minimum (ideally 4 track). Express in peak directions on 3 track, both ways on 4 track. Limited stop to every rough 0.8 mile. 138, 149, 161, 170, east tremont, 183, fordham rd, moshulo/webster, east gun hill rd/webster. Express would only stop: 149, 161, east tremont, fordham rd, gun hill.

If the issue is that the service doesn't run that frequently, then the solution is to improve the frequency. If an area can't support a 40-foot bus running more often than every 12 minutes, how can it support a 480-foot train running every 10 minutes or less?

Yes, I do agree that the area could use a subway line, but what I'm saying is that you should keep in mind that the subway will likely bring an increase in density that the current residents don't want.

Density is often capped by zoning.

Remember when Bill De Blasio proposed a new subway line under Utica Avenue running from Utica Avenue station to a new station at Avenue U and Kings Plaza?

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/23/ny...bway-line.html

A new subway line under Utica Avenue would cost much more money than extending an existing subway line. To reduce costs, the Nostrand Avenue Line should be extended from Flatbush Avenue station south under Flatbush Avenue. Three new subway stations would be built at Kings Highway/Flatlands Avenue, Avenue N/Quentin Road, and Avenue U-Kings Plaza. It would cost much less to extend the Nostrand Avenue Line to Kings Plaza than to build a new subway line under Utica Avenue.

If local Harlem line trains in The Bronx ran more frequently and on the same fare system as the subway, that would nearly have the same functionality as a 3rd avenue line. Cheaper than constructing a new line from scratch

What about Northern Blvd through Jackson Heights, could have the M or R branch out there. Part of Jackson Heights is far from the subway, and the 7 is already overcrowded. Might be worthwhile to extend the line all the way out to Murray Hill, maybe around 154th st.

A train line along northern Blvd would be ideal, especially if the stops are spaced apart well (the 7 and the queens Blvd line already have stations within .5 miles of northern Blvd.) However, it would be a nightmare to branch it off the MR, you would be taking away much needed local service off queens Blvd and you wouldn't have enough service for the new line anyway.

A four track express along northern Blvd, all the way to the Nassau border would be great (with local trains terminating in flushing or branching up to college point, while the express continues to Douglaston.) to do this, the local would be an extension of the G, and the express would merge with the F through the 63st tunnel, and connect to the Bway Express. It would be even better if the Q and F switched terminals but I'm not sure if that's possible. It's doesn't matter though because, any new subway construction in Queens is nothing but a fantasy. There is no money or political will to build any new subways here.

That would actually be awesome. Marine Park/Mill Basin/Flatlands/Bergen Beach is totally under-served transit wise. This would take some strain off the Q/B trains and they buses that connect to them from Marine Park/Mill Basin etc.
