I try not to look down on my neighbors so much. And we can't treat recreational opiate use, especially in big port cities like ours, as a nuisance to be contained. It isn't going to go away, so co-existence in pursuit of the best possible outcomes for the users and the communities in which they live seems like the logical approach.
Co-existence is fine as long as these junkies live in your building.
I agree with you to an extent, we can't just sweep the dirt under the rug and pretend the problem doesn't exist, but let's be honest here; most of us, even those who are pretty tolerant of recreational drug use for adults, don't want to live amongst addicts of hard drugs.
Be that a pill, coke, alcohol or whatever kind of addict.
It's a nuisance for everyone.
It's great to hear people finally "talking smack" on here, so to speak. Whatever one may think about it, heroin has a long and storied history here in NYC.
I appreciate the lifestyle, to put it discretely. I am in Coney Island, and have no complaints. Recreational supplies are not hard to come by, quality is good, and the rents have remained stable. South Brooklyn in general is less expensive and has fewer cops than North. Fewer yuppies too. And to the O.P.- don't let the haters get you down! There is nothing wrong with a grown adult getting their kicks now and then!!!
Good grief...experimentation within a life time - is one thing but dedicated use of poison is another thing...Why would you want to spend your life with numb itchy skin...and a chronic case of permanent CONSTIPATION....And who wants to know a person who is dull eyed and full of crap 24 7?

All good points. I volunteered at a retirement complex once, and all of the older folks, some only in their 60s, were constipated and needed laxatives.
Aside from all the addiction, denial, etc. issues, you mean that you use "discreetly," not "discretely." Unusual arguments work best when their English is impeccable; if you misspell something, or get the grammar wrong, people may dismiss you as too stoned to learn how to write correctly. Not ME, maybe, but some people....
