Why in the world would you advise the OP to stalk someone, get up in their face against police directions, take a well-deserved beating, then shoot the person they stalked? That doesn't seem like sound advice. Are you the OP's friend or enemy? Why would you suggest the OP instigate a no-win situation?
I sure hope a Zimmerman-ish person doesn't label YOU as suspicious, lest you end up getting "Trayvon'ed".
At approximately 2:30am today I was walking south on Broadway when ........What a disappointing experience.
Just because you felt fine it doesn't mean you were/are. Being thrown to the ground can result in some serious whiplash or an internal head injury making itself known hours, days or months later. I think it's not too late to file a police report and get checked by a doctor. Any findings by the doc can be used to substantiate the report and crime.
Police reports are important because they tell a precinct about problem areas and crime patterns. Perhaps this vagrant is continuing his rampage and your report, as well as others', would get him off the streets & save someone else from serious injury.
Mostly, telling cops/medics you were injured when assaulted is more likely to result in arrest.
Did any of the independent witnesses speak with the police? Confirm your story?

NYPD arrested 37,558 people for misdemeanor assault in 2012. That's 103 per day.
55,197 assault victms were documented: 151 per day.
Averages out to 2 arrests for every 3 assaults. Must be doing something.
