If you need to go to different places, again, you can drive and park like everyone else or take public transportation. It is this mentality of "need" in a city with the best public transportation in the country. If this were 99% of the rest of the country I would agree, but it isn't and you don't need a placard..although it is more convenient for you. As for NYPD, they use a variety of vehicles, and a vehicle is part of the job so I can understand some needing a placard. FDNY I am not convinced need one..which is why I said maybe. Other than that..nobody needs a placard.

So if I sign in at 8am at my garage, and then am told to go to a garage across town and uptown, but have to spend an extra 30min to find parking, (mind you I'm on the clock) do you think the department would rather give me a placard so I can easily park, or waste more time on me finding a spot, mind you that's money that's coming out of YOUR paycheck. Placards don't hurt anybody when used properly and the only people allegedly misusing them is NYPD, the one agency you seem to think deserves to have them.

That's all up to the department...I can make the same argument with my job and yet I have to take myself on the train like every other slob...my 85 year old grandmother makes a good case for her to have a placard....

Why was sanitation left out of the deal that gave NYPD and NYFD parking spaces around their "garage". All firehouses and precincts have almost entire streets blocked off for reserved parking.

In manhattan mostly all the garages have their own off street parking, some of the putter borough garages are still without parking. Also it "FDNY" not "NYFD" and not quite sure why you put quotations around the word garages, they are actually garages lol

Moral of the thread: Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The country's founding fathers believed in checks and balances and accountability--concepts which are not at the forefront of government anymore.

Perhaps some of the placards are bogus:

Why are the placards an issue for anyone. Life isn't fair. WOW. Who cares?
