I don't think that's true. Those of us in tier 4 can borrow from both, tier 6 can only borrow from one but I forget which

The rules for the current tier 6 apply to all future hires until such time a new tier is created

Hopefully we get a contract this year I wanna know if the last hires from 6063 are gonna be able to buy back into tier4 because it's not fair that we got screwed because of a dumb ass hiring freeze

No offense but when I see posts like this it irks me. How exactly were you screwed?

anyone with a list number higher than 2500 is lucky there was a freeze. Because most wouldn't be here without it

nowhere on any city test does it promise a tier, a number of years until retirement or anything else. Your tier is determined by the current tier at your date of hiring. They could change the tier every year and we could have had 4 tier off one test. If there was no freeze they would have probably pushed a new tier years earlier.

when tier 4 came out, tier 4 complained they got screwed too. The next tier will wish they were your tier.

Now my question: let's pretend this tier had anything to do with the city and that the union could do anything about it (it was from over their heads at state level), what exactly is you want to buy back? You cannot buy into a tier as of now. Previously we used buy back to refer to time so the thirty year guys could retire in twenty and buy back was all about time. You have 2.5 extra years and statistics are showing many that can leave in 20 are doing 25 anyway. I don't see the union killing themselves over getting back 2.5 years that many were going to work anyway. They can't "buy back" the no pension loans or the heart bill, or the real bad part of the tier which is the social security offset. At this rate it'd be better to hope for an economic upturn and a brand new tier with better options. But no one was screwed getting a job with healthcare and retirement after 22.5 years with a pension.

In all honesty you're a rare minority with little time on the job. Not you specifically, I mean tier 6 as a whole. Tier 6 is the minority and none has had enough time to rise up. Soon you'll be the majority and you'll have members rise through the ranks. Not that I have any time mind you lol but the tier 4 guys are still running stuff because there's many and they have time. What that means is you have a long time to change this so don't give up hope because there's no progress right now. At some point guys like sanman2k5 and mikey from queens and myself will be the odd old timers that are the last remnants of an old tier and your tier will be everywhere. You'll be bosses, you'll be the shop stewards (garbage tech and almost twenty will both be long retired) and you'll be the union board. And then I think you'll see the push for better stuff cause right now too many tier 4 guys can say "doesn't apply to me." But especially right now when the union is focused on contracts they probably don't get into. Plus they know they'll be long gone before any tier 6 gets to retirement. But I'm not sure any contract is going to give you an answer one way or another on what you can do with your tier one day.
