Daycare: $1800

Entertainment: $300
Utility bills: $300
Rent: $700
Transportation: $120

That's $3900 right there. It's going to be tight.
$700 for food for 1 person? Whoa... you can easily cut that in half.

$300 on utility bills? What kinda utlity bill would run that much?...lol. again you could easily cut that in half.

you can also find daycard much cheaper than $1800 a month.

This whole list is crap...only thing you got right was transportation. no wonder so many people are in debt. no idea how to manage money.

Daycare: $1800 - This seems excessively high
Food: $700 - I can do $100/mo being cheap in Manhattan and $300 is splurging for me, I think $700 is excessive.
Entertainment: $300 - I've seen this figure thrown around a lot. It depends on what you like to do. I'm close to $100/mo given past trends in my expenses.
Utility bills: $300 - Wow, mine are 65~70+35(internet) = $100~105 in Manhattan
Rent: $700
Transportation: $120

My expenses are about $2k/mo and that's with eating out for lunch everyday and doing drop off/pick up laundry + student loans + amazon card (yay 0% credit), and rent 2x as much as the OP. I think she'll be okay given Crown Heights is likely cheaper than where I'm at.

So 2000 + daycare. $3800.

She also has another mouth to feed. People keep forgetting that. Plus diapers, wipes, Aquaphor, etc.

OP..... This is an outdated guide (2009), but there may still be some really good info. It's a parenting guide for Crown Heights, specifically. I would suggest cold calling some of the daycares listed on google to get Crown Heights tuition prices so you know the price range. I know on the other side of the park, you'd absolutely be spending $2000+ for 1 kid in daycare, but in Crown Heights, I think it will be cheaper. How much cheaper, I'm not sure.

That food estimate is very high. Entertainment is probably also high considering this is a single mom. Utilities may or may not be high depending on what's included in that number.

The crappy daycares start at $1000 a month, she makes too much money to get a state discount....do you have kids?

I'll just add, if this wasn't already mentioned, get a lease from your aunt because the last thing you need is someone to get greedy after you get settled and raise your rent. Family can be funny sometimes.

If you work 3 x 12 hr nights, paying someone to come in and stay the night can be cost effective.

You will be fine.

You have a well thought out plan.

If your apt is easy walking distance to the Metro, get rid of your car. If not, insurance will be higher here, but not prohibitively so. You can park on the streets in Brooklyn, though you probably will have to go to the other side of the street M-F.

You should be able to put more $$ in savings unless you go nuts on child care & later on schooling.

Good luck.
