These are just proposals in Albany at the moment. De Blasio is not yet in board, but probably because he is running for reelection. After he is reelected he'll be pushed by the anti end mass incarceration activists in this.

Thread title a bit misleading

All for the first, not the second. We don't need more air pollution and stinks in the city. Use marijuana in non-intrusive ways all you want though. Ban tobacco smoking too.

You would deprive the working girls you are "all for" of a smoke between clients? Seems cruel to me.

You should make the titles of your posts reflect actual facts.

New York State is no where near decriminalizing prostitution and any such bill isn't even on the agenda. What you've got are a wish list of proposals from a panel headed by former state chief judge. If you think a bulk of New Yorkers especially those outside of NYC/Downstate are going to go for not making prossing a crime, I suggest you think again.

You literally quoted the part where he said "just proposals." It's cool, we all make mistakes, your humble mod included...

I said they were proposals.

With that said, New York is facing a massive budget crunch, and according to that article they go out of their way to not imprison prostitutes if pimps are involved. Already if it appears human trafficking or some other coercion was involved, they STOPPED prosecuting prostitutes. They may extend this to regular prostitution as well. Arrests have been dropping in recent years, as cops mainly focus more on violent crimes.

And please nobody arrested Melania Trump. If being a hooker can make you the first lady, why is it illegal?

There's also that the NYPD will be facing it's own budget crunch, and so will the city. Governments simply won't have the resources to prosecute hookers. May as well decriminalize it.

Seriously, what would this do for the economy.....legalizing prostitution and marijuana, NYC could prolly make enough coin to create a few new neighborhoods at the same time

Exactly. And they know it. You already have medical marijuana. Cuomo has been held back on recreation because of his political ambitions (President) but now that it's quite clearly centrist Democrats can't win, neither he nor de Blasio have nothing to lose. Go for the coin in NY and legalize marijuana and prostitution. Honestly I say all drugs should be legal, but that's another conversation. Think about how much money is wasted on unnecessarily locking people up.
