I don't understand why you can't be proud to be American or to be living here but can't also celebrate your cultural background. What is the big issue? When certain groups do it it's great when the brown folks do it, it's a problem...
18th and 19th century was the time when germans and dutch immigrated in large numbers, similar to the behavior of latinos today. That is why their practices then are relevant.
You must be much older. There was also a large wave of German immigrants entering the US during the first half of the 20th century. That is the group I'm referring too. Their descendants no longer speak a lick of German, so I suspect in 50 years from now that Spanish will be extinct from being heard on the sidewalks of NYC. Although you'll hear teachers and students speaking in Spanish in non-ESL classrooms, which I highly doubt was ever the case for the German immigrant.

People typically do not like parades whether it is black, brown or white. They see them as an inconvenience, and too overcrowded, and too loud. These people probably shouldn't live in Manhattan then.
These parades are mostly on weekends and in heavily commercial downtown areas. People complaining are either bigots and/or whiny and need to get over it.

Who told you that german immigrants in the early 20th century renounced their mother language, or did not teach their kids to speak german at home? See the link above, 20th century dutch immigrants did it. And mennonites continue to speak in german dialect today. There are many latinos who are still first and second gen, but someday they will become like marco and ted. They deserve the same flexibility that was given to germans, dutch, lebanese, and English for that matter.
Anecdotal yes but it's been my observation most Latinos in nyc start losing Spanish by second generation. Third/4th gen it's pretty rare to find fluent Spanish speakers.

Oh I dunno about that. Dominicans do anything and everything to speak *Spanish* (and poorly at that). Won't even call it *Spanglish* since it's not that either. ¿Cómo tú 'tas loko? *LOL* Am here to tell you have never seen a language butchered so much by one group. Love the people, but you folks destroy the language like never before. Cut this, change that, and speak a mile a minute and then write the language the same way they speak it, with *horrible* grammar.
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Well there isn't one universal way of speaking Spanish. In general people in coastal areas throughout Latin America speak "chopped-up" Spanish. Of course this varies depending on situation and setting too...

I grew up in Glendale. The older foreign born German immigrants spoke German in public, but their offspring never would. Could say the same for Italians. Aside from Puerto Ricans, Hispanics tend to hold onto their mother tongue a bit longer. I too, do think it will eventually wear away. Asians, aside from Filipinos, try talking to their kids in their mother tongue, but for some reason the kids always rather respond back in English.
