Everything is racist now, it's actually quite funny. The labelling of my comment regarding the 1st Amendment as racist could quite possibly be the height of Orwellian irony. Is the whole Constitution racist now?
Have you ever seen the Irish, Italian, Brazilian, Puerto Rican, Cuban, etc parades? All of them have their flags and people wearing them, etc..
I don't recall seeing people actually wrapping themselves in the Italian or Irish flag. But it's equally distasteful whoever does it. If your loyalty is that strong, I'm not sure the person should stay here. There's a difference between appreciating your heritage and been devoted to it.

You are just a racist. I'm going to report this thread.
Get out of New York City and go to Charlottesville if you want racial homogeneity because Dominicans aren't going anywhere. Bye
Charlotesville isn't a white supremacist hub, that's just where the white supremacists decided to hold a rally because of the confederate statue being taken down there
Real NYers don't do parades period. That's the day you hit the Hamptons or get out of city. Parades in general are meant for non-NYers and those ethnicity of the parade.
Why not embrace American culture? Why come here and feel the country you left is better? Why not celebrate or embrace American culture just as much?
What exactly would that entail? That could have a very different meaning on a individual to individual level and will be expressed very differently from person to person.

Oh I dunno. For starters saying you're American instead of *constantly* talking about the old country and how beautiful and great it is. You left that country to come here for a reason, and if all you can do is talk about the old country, then obviously there's a conflict. Showed people from *various* countries in the news receiving citizenship. Seemed like everyone interviewed talked about the joy of becoming American except for one man. The man was from the Dominican Republic and talked *endlessly* about how *beautiful* DR was but NEVER once talked about him becoming an American then and there. Was wondering why in the hell did he come here for only to talk about how great DR is when you just became an American citizen? DR is not providing you with an opportunity to better yourself. It's the U.S. doing that. Show some respect for the place that live in now for once. Cannot stand people like that. See Russians doing the same thing. Russia is so great. Can't stop yelling in Russian. Well go back there then.
If you've been here for years and don't know how to celebrate American culture, there's a disconnect on your part.
Simply inaccurate. You are crazy in you believe you can generalize an entire country. I was born in DR and have been several people who were born in DR and in the USA that can speak and write formal Spanish.
My point is who are we to define how to express that love for America?
My point is if you're constantly bragging about how great so other country is, how in the hell is anyone expressing love for America? Man was simply asked where he was from like the others, and after that it was all about the Dominican Republic and how beautiful the country is. Not one word about the U.S.
We celebrate American culture by knocking down hundred plus year old monuments as if it really matters.
