These charts tells everything you need to know....

City has been on a spending spree since Bdeb came into office, with FTE and full time headcounts consistently growing year to year and in foreseeable future.

https://cbcny.org/research/facts-about-nyc-budget-1

Now that the flush good times are over city is scrambling to pass a balanced budget as legally required.

Much of what is in budget passed this week relies upon Hail Mary's that may not be answered fully or at all (federal or state aid, Albany allowing city to borrow money...). If that happens then we all better watch out, because cuts are coming as city won't have a choice.

Roughly 23k total

FYI
We have 2200 civilian employees
It’s not 1600 per agency. The article says they are looking to save 100 million by eliminating 1600 bodies which averages out to be $62,500 per worker which seems about right.

The 22k thing is for October 1.

The city has had layoffs during times nowhere as bad as right now. Don’t be too sure its impossible. Snow storm of 2010, they hired workers out of Buffalo to come help plow, we’re more replaceable than we think. And guys that won’t get laid off will be more than happy to work charts and OT, and clean the routes.

Hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst.

Look at it this way...they will lay off every civilian before one SW. There are over 2k civilans in dsny. And not even 6k sanitation workers citywide. Id say its a very small chance to lay off SW but, in this given climate, you really never know.
