This is incredibly sad. SMH. She leaves behind a 13 year old daughter. Just goes to show that money isn't everything and you never know what kind of demons folks are fighting privately. Rest in Peace Kate Spade.
I don't know when someone makes millions on a deal, even if it was a low ball deal I don't feel bad and think they got shafted.
And even if they did--it's only money. She had a 13-year-old kid! If she was in her right mind, the need to not cause her child emotional harm would have outweighed losing money that she didn't need.
She must have been in a very bad place inside herself.
It's very sad but I also think it was very selfish on her part - she should have been thinking about the damage that killing herself would do to her daughter. She could have afforded some private facility if she was thinking of harming herself. It's not like she'd have had to check herself into Bellevue.
That's the first reaction of most of us, but "should have" doesn't come into play in these situations. You are thinking with a logical mind that she did not have.
I read a story in Vogue a few years ago about a mother who attempted suicide after her four-year-old daughter died of cancer. She also had a husband and two sons. She was hospitalized for a long time and at the time of the article was working to re-establish her relationship with her husband and remaining children.
She said people told her what you said above about suicide being selfish and the harm it would cause her family. She said that NOW she could understand why people would say that, but at the time of her attempted suicide she was not capable of such a thought. The only thought she had was "end the pain".
Partner was in the fashion industry and he had never heard of her either.
That can't be. She's pretty big. I even heard of her. Ironically I stumbled past her store on 5th ave and (19th or 20th) on my way to work this morning. I usually don't go through 5th ave but had to get something from Home depot on 23rd so I ended up going that way. The store is pretty big and named after her. I didn't go inside but wondered how the workers in there were feeling once they heard the news.
Also would her brand be more popular now that she's gone? Not sure how the fashion world reacts to popular designers passing away. Didn't the Versace brand get more popular after he was killed?
