I haven't rode in an Uber for months because it's just too damn expensive and slow. With congestion pricing, a typical fare from across town may jump from $24 to $30.
OP really our hope ... is to vote out Cuomo/dems? Were you equally willing to vote out Bloomie/reps when he first attempted to get congestion pricing? No one spoke up in the intervening decade or so since then with a better way of financing capital public transit projects - so like london and other cities we are attempting congestion pricing.
I think there will be issues with it for a number of reasons - but like with citibike I will learn to adapt as will the Queens driving folks who I think this will impact the hardest borough wise.
Everyone is going to pay for this liberal democrat wet dream called "congestion pricing".
All deliveries below 61st street (or whatever) effectively will be taxed. Those paying that rate will simply pass along extra cost to customers. Doesn't matter if you're ordering furniture or a pizza; if it has go into midtown or below cost likely will increase.
Unless given an exemption taxi, uber, lyft, car services, etc... all will pass along any increase in fares because of congestion pricing.
Rent a car, Zipcar or whatever? If you go below into or below midtown for any reason there likely will be an increase as CP tax is passed along.
Car rental places haven't made any announcements as of yet that one knows of; but am going with they all will simply add a CP fee to all NYC rentals because they cannot control nor know if renter will enter that zone. From the UES or UWS you cannot get to NJ (and for people like me thus to Staten Island), without going through midtown to the Lincoln or downtown to the Holland. Suppose could take the FDR to Brooklyn Bridge or Battery, but that is a CF even at off peak travel times. So again if you are renting a ride and want to go from those areas out of city those are your options. Unless you want to drive north to the GWB and cross.
All sorts of business owners, employees, etc... who are midtown or below now are going to be taxed. Business owners either will eat that cost or try to pass it along. This goes for contractors, service persons and anyone else from dry cleaning/laundry on down.
Many businesses/services are already operating on tight margins and very close to the edge. Last thing the need in this over taxed and regulated city/state is another hand picking their back pockets. But that is exactly what CP is going to do; so ways are going to be found to get that money back from somewhere.
People who live below 61st Street te d to be wealthy and there are a lot of tourists. So what if they pay more?

Why should only wealthy people be allowed south of 60th st? The city was meant to be a place for people to live and work. Not the place for the wealthy to go to take permanent vacation. How convenient for them to be able to tax the middle and working people out of their Disneyworld adventure.
ALL taxes are and have forever been "just another tax for the poorer to support the richer." It is the rich who write tax law.
You're welcome for supporting your rich greedy lifestyle.
