I was finally able to test this all out over the weekend. The pass does work on New Haven line as already pointed out. Onboard I have to buy a ride-extension from the conductor. This gets rounded up to the nearest whole dollar. So 9.75 would be come 10. I can also use a single or multi ride ticket bought in advance for the ride extension.. Same thing works in return direction.
