I see those videos of jewelers being broken into but the fact is that all jewelry stores by procedure never store their stuff out in the open. They are all stored in an impenetrable safe or offsite. You maybe able to break in and get some low end stuff but anything more than a few thousands is never on premise or easy to get because there has been inside jobs in the past so the practice is never to put them inside stores without being in a safe.
Also for Apple stores, they are remotely bricking all devices stolen. You may think that you got a free iphone but Apple has sent out lock codes and remotely locking them, Since there's a lockdown in place, it's very easy for them to remote lock stuff in the stolen from their inventory. Some of the looters actually posted pics of their stolen stuff which is not very smart they will be prosecuted later on with the evidence captured by social media. Just not now, eventually they will be arrested when the dust settles.

Want to get all the young white protesters off the streets? Offer them summer internships to google, twitter, Big 4 accounting firms, Big law, Congress, personal assistant jobs to people in film, music, fashion. Offices are closed. Universities are closed. School is closed. You can't travel internationally for the summer so they can't go any place where they can post selfies on Instagram climbing Mt. Fuji, beach combing in Tanzania, or posing in front of a volcano in Iceland. They are bored.

Lock down is just a bit of extra; Apple long has had ability to brick and track stolen phones. You think stuff hasn't been stolen out of an Apple store before?
You can download/activate certain software or apps on most Apple products that track and or will brick the thing if stolen.
You buy a stolen new Apple product from Tyrone or Naquita round the way somewhere and try to get it activated and usually it will be bricked. Taking it to an Apple store is risky because they can easily look up and see the thing is stolen, and you might not even get it back.
Word is even pawn shops aren't taking these stolen Apple devices (they and many independent phone stores often do a brisk business in stolen phones, tablets, lap tops, etc...). The things are just too hot and really are just useless long as they are bricked.
