It also has some of the best. There’s a large economic divide in the city which is a real problem. Some of the private schools are literally some of the best in the world. Very expensive too.
None of the published graduation rates include any of these private schools which are all at 100%. And that’s a lot of students so the numbers are a bit off when you take the richest and smartest (scholarship)
kids out of the equation.
New Jersey is one of the most liberal states in the nation, so the OP kinda baffles me. Yes, there are some “Red” parts up in the mountain areas and in South Jersey, but you might as well be part of the Green Party. Heck, Governor Murphy even said his goal was to make NJ the “California of the East Coast”!
What I don’t get is if all these people from NYC are getting permanent WFH options, why would you move to NJ or CT?! After being born and raised in NJ, I’ve been trying to move to a lower-cost southern state for years now! The ever-increasing taxes and tolls are oppressive. The only thing holding me back is my wife, who isn’t ready to leave family and friends behind yet. That part sucks for me too, but I also think with my brain vs my heart and understand our money will stretch further elsewhere and no one will pay our bills or fund our retirement except us.
As for politics, I definitely feel like a rare breed as a Moderate. Both Democrats and Republicans have gone way too extreme on their views. It’s nauseating and has made me give up voting on the national level. However, it would clearly make sense to locally vote for fiscally-conservative candidates if I finally move because I am escaping all the stupid taxes in NJ....

I think moderates just don't make as much noise as the opposing extremities, but are a sizable group. The problem is as soon as you say something that seems to lean to a side, suddenly you get equated to the extreme factions in that group.
You know the poorest state in the union is a red state right? Mississippi.
If you want I can give you some red **** hole counties. If there is anything in common between blue and red is they have some crappy places
